Oil in ECU harness

ten

In Fourth Gear
Just had my td5 engine wiring harness replaced. The dealer said there is a seal where the wiring enters the rocker box and this hardens in time allowing oil to seep along the wiring. The oil finds its way into the computer unit under the seat and the engine runs very roughly.

All is well now but can anyone suggest a method of ensuring that the same thing doesn't happen again?

Thanks, Ten

The new harnesses are supposed to be modified, time will tell eh ? Just pull the plug off once a month,(ignition off) and have a look.

Working on the principal that the part numbers for the harnesses have never changed I don't think Land Rover ever redesigned these components for older vehicles.
It looks like the engine bay harness only changed as vehicle spec changed.

So chances are the problem will reoccur somewhere down the line :(

I just disconnect mine and let the oil drip out of the loom overnite when it gets a bit lumpy - 2 or 3 times a year....
