oil light problem

smokey

In Third Gear
I've recently fitted a 2.5 n.a. diesel to my 2A
the engine has been completely re-built, with many new parts.
I've ran it for around 3 weeks, and it runs brilliantly, however, over the last few days, the oil light has been coming on, BUT, only after a run of around 8 miles or so. this has happened on 3 different occasions, and always after around 8 miles.
the oil is new, and at the correct level, and the engine is not overheating, and sounds sweet as a nut whilst the light is on.
I have an idea that it may be the oil pressure switch that is at fault, could this happen intermittently? - and also the switch has a sort of clear conical, plastic cover, just below the spade terminal on the top, - this cover has become full of oil, should the oil be able to get into this plastic cover?
any ideas?

There should be no oil leak or oil that far up inside the sender. If the conical plastic end cap is full of oil, then your switch is faulty.
