Ok then , what's the trick ?

Laninlandy

Offroader
Removing rear damper to replace the lower bushes .
The damper is turning , i have molegrips on the bottom of it and hanging on as tight as i can whilst with my third arm i try to turn the nut . Just when there is just enough pressure to turn the nut the damper slips from the vice like grip of the mole grips .
Been at it for about an hour this morning and getting nowhere .
The nut is soaked in WD40 .
I'm now having a cup of tea before i put a spanner through the windscreen :D

First thing...WD40 is not a realease fluid. Plus-Gas is.

I generally use a nut splirret on these nuts if I'm savive the shocker.
Now be careful when you buy the nuts. The could be any thread.

Yeah nut splitter is good, get the replacement and check it fits first! The other one to try would be a 12 or 18" plumbers stilson to grip the shock body with, they grip tighter or can be wedged against axle/chassis etc.
Or bin the shock if its OE oil one, theyr'e only £10 each, gas ones £30+

Cheers for the replies . I 'm going to have one more crack at it . Giving it the time it takes to have a cigarette plus 20 minutes .After that i'm off up to the local landy independant for another shocker , the old one will be cut off at the bottom :D .
Then a haircut cause whilst i'm getting ready for the MOT i'm turning into a hair bear :D .

Oh the fun i''m having today :D

To add :
Been up the independants for a nut or new damper. He didn't have any dampers or a new nut .By sheer luck he had just swapped a set of OE dampers for a set of gas ones a few days back , i was then presented FOC with one of the dampers that i could make good use of .
That nut is about to be split .
;)

I've found that a G-clamp is best round body of shock, especially on front where you can fit the G-clamp through the spring.

Cheers

works even better if you tear the flat plate off it and let the ball joint dig into it. Stilston is the best option though.
