Pattern or Genuine parts

Hi all

I am about to embark on a head rebulild https://www.lrukforums.com/showthread.php?t=81855

I have a question about Patern or Genuine parts,

I know that the rule of thumb for electical parts is that they should be genuine particully as i run on gas but does this hold true for other parts?

I ask as there is signifanct price diference for the gasgets in particular what is the consensus on this?

I am also looking for suppliers so far i have tried
RPI, Rimmer Bros, Turner is there anybody else out there i could try?

Thanks

Aidan

Genuine or equivalent quality (e.g. OEM manufacturer) for anything of importance.

For critical gaskets (e.g. cylinder head gasket), see above. Other gaskets only for metal to metal seperation go with the cheapest, or buy a box of cornflakes.

Both Land Rover and Britpart will cut their head gaskets from sheet gasket material. Assume Britpart use an appropriate grade of gasket material, then unless they cut the gasket wrongly their gasket should be of the same quality.

May others chip in with their varying opinions. :)

Land Rover don't make.
OIl
Oil filters
Fuel filters
Fuel tanks
Wheels
Tyres
Brake pads or brakes shoes
Brake discs or brake drums
Chassis
Glass
Wiring looms
Head lights
Side tail indicator lights.
Wiper parts.
Seats
Nuts bolts and washers or split cotters.

Now look for OE parts not patterned.

Land Rover, in common with ALL other car makers dont make any parts. They ASSEMBLE the parts that are made all over Europe.

I know this for a fact, I collect parts from different parts of the country and take them to Washington near Sunderland to be assembled by Nissan.

I left body panels out because that press they have at Washington/Sunderland [Depending who you like :D ] is very impressive. Have you seen it. Sheet metal in at one end. Nice new shaped panel at the other.
As for Land Rover parts. It makes a change to buy from the stealer something made in the UK.

Ok i will look for OE parts initaly and then Genuine parts, I dont want to have to redo the work for another 60k miles

Having said all that I am aware that i might have a "porus" block on my hands:yikes:

I anyone has anthing to add about my rebuld i would apprecate the input ...

some people recomend replacing the oil pump anyone got an opinion on this?
