I've been positing this topic on every LR site I'm a member of. I'm trying to locate my engine number on my Series 3 R6 PuP. The manual says it should be on the side of the engine just next to the dissy. I've cleaned up the dirt and grease but still could not find any engine number. I now desperate for any help or suggestion. What I did manage to see was the casting number AYB 0408. Also I've gathered that this landi was used in the milatry.

The number should be stamped at the front of the engine, near the top of the block on the distibutor side. Theres usually a flat edge with it on. Just above the top left hand corner of the side tappet cover.

Though...with it being military, theres a chance you might have a plate on the opposite side with a number on, usually brass...

I've had a decent look at the block and I did see the flat surface near the dissy. However it's go no number on it. Where should I look for the brass plate?
 
If engine has been rebuilt someone may have removed it. I gather that some reconditioners do that. Don't know why. Sounds like a dodgy practice to me.
 
Trent used to do it on rebuilt units. It was for our records. There was a book which the builder entered the details, such as crank ground 10 thou, new pistons, stuff like that. Then a Brass plate with the next number in the book attached. It is easier to look for details of engine number 102 than the full number.

It's is perfectly lawful to change any numbers, even a speedo, as long as it isn't to decieve and a record is kept.

If we change a second hand Digital dash pod to the mileage shown on the original pod, the Company that does it gives you a Certificate, that we hold in our files.
