Accelerating Away
Rear diff on my 97 p38 is about to self-destruct.
Paddocks seem to list a 2 pin diff and a 4 pin diff.Excuse my ignorance but whats the difference and would anyone know which one i need? Thanks:)

No idea what the difference is, but your axle number (stamped on the left-hand axle tube) will tell you if you have a two-pin or four-pin diff.

Axle numbers 50S or 54S = 2-pin diff
Axle numbers 51S or 55S = 4-pin diff

Don't make it simple do they

It means 4 PINion Diff or 2 PINion Diff.

The 4 has one cross pin and usually 2 half pins holding the PINions.
The 2 has one cross pin.

The 4 pin is much stronger.

Is it possible the v8 is equipped with the stronger diff Chris? I can't find any numbers as described by Bernie (mines a diesel) . Ill have a really good look in the daylight-need to strip it off anyway, hopefully i can compare it visually to the above files ?

I'm not sure, Harry. You will easily see which one you have if you drop it out.

If you take the filer out and peer in with a light, you might see.
