Replacing 91 Defender water pump

MIKESLANDY

Hello all, going replacing the water pump on my mates 200tdi defender. On my old 90 the shroud around the fan could be spit in two to gain access to the pump, but in this one its all on piece, does the rad have to be removed then the cowl etc. Seems like a bit of a pain.
Thanks
Mike

Nope, remove the fan, remove the coolant top hose and you will be able to lift the fan cowl out... is a bit of squeeze, but will come out!!!

Can be done with the fan cowling still in place, but is a bit tight.

Thanks for the help, it was the not knowing that was tormenting me:D . Makes the job easier, but still fiddliy.
While Im on, my mate priced the new pump at a local main dealer and it worked out at about £150stg+vat:eek: . nuts, ordered one from Paddocks £31+vat, probably a pattern part but what the hell for that price.
Cheers
Mike

Still awaiting a delivery from paddocks to fit the pump. We noticed something else while trying to un bolt the fan, the viscous coupling seems a little strange, i know it freewheels as such around the shaft/axis, but this moves up and down, left and right etc without the pump axle moving. Do I assume this has also had it ?
Thanks Mike
