I used the wipac conversion kit as sold by the major retailers.

But there is a clear lense conversion, which i think Wipac sells and combined with some white bulbs they are a lot better than standard.

I'm in the process of doing this myself... (outside garage..continual bad weather has hampered me)

I got the parts for my conversion from Big Jim and Satancom, but the conversion kit was 'Ring' make, and I know people who have just gone the length of removing the sealed beams and fitting the halogens in their place.

I am fitting relays in mine though, as I was advised its the best way to go. Considering the 1980's wiring, the amount of crud in the area, dodgy connections, bad earths, etc, it makes very good sense to me to do this, and the relays will protect the switch wiring from the draw of the halogens.

Along with the great advice I had from other forum members, I found this page very useful. (being a link Alex posted)

I fitted the Wipac kit several years ago. You realy need to fit relays too, otherwise you'll be replacing the main switch and the column stalk quite often. The relays and 27A cable also reduce electrical resistance, compared to the original circuit, so the lights will be much brighter. If you use the ultra white 55/60W bulbs, you'll be very pleased with the results. Make sure you paint some waxoil on the back of the reflectors - they rust quickly otherwise.
