Series 1 4x2's

FUV

In Second Gear
Hi i am wanting to try and find out a but more information on 4x2's, my sister and brother-in-law have bought one. I'm just interested in findind a little more info.
I do know that most have the FUV reg mark but this one does not.

It is currently in a stripped down state going through a full rebuild, the last owner did ndecided to make it in to a defender look alike (not very well!)

thank you

Keith

A firend of mine used to have a 4x2 and it's reg was 593 FUV. He converted his to 4x4 and scrapped the plainn front axle which was a mistake in hindsight! I believe (at least he was told) that they were used mainly on airfields where 4x4 wasn't really neccessary. Dunno how true this is.
BTW the truck was last seen for sale on Worstershire ones advert about 2 years ago.
Can we have some pics of your sisters truck?

A mate who sadly died last year had two of them - both FUV registrations, and both station wagons. Both had been converted to 4x4 though.

Sorry cannot help anymore.....

As far as I know it is true that they were built for use on military airfields. I have read quotes over the years that Land Rover are the only car manufacturer in the world to have produced only 4x4 vehicles - errrm, nearly right but not quite;)

cheers, Tim
