Accelerating Away
No questions to ask, no info to request, nothing, except to moan that my gearbox has expired. ******!!
It had got noisy so I was looking into replacing with a recon unit, checking out Ashcroft's website on Thursday night, then on the way to work on Friday, nasty noise and lost fifth and reverse.
Had to get it home after work (and after phoning Ashcroft) and by the time I arrived I had 2nd and 3rd with LOTS of noise, I reckon they've got about a mile left in them, and lost 1st. Fourth is good though, always liked fourth, a really good gear that, no noise or anything!

So I'm Defenderless till the 22nd, nightmare. Still, a good excuse to change the transfer box too, and get some higher ratios dropped in.

Anyway, thats it. Like I say nothing to say really but its off my chest, dont think itll make spending £1500 any easier though!

OUCH that must have dented the bank balance. Why don't you do a thread on the replacement process lots of piccies etc and post on here for us uninitiated. give us some idea of what work is involved.

The problem is I rely on it for my everyday transport to work, and really dont have the time or ability to do it myself. I do about 100 miles a day and cant afford to be broken down - not at work = not being paid.
I'm taking it to Ashcrofts as the cost is not ridiculously more than locally and it should be right then.....I hope.
Luckily I have the loan of a Disco in the mean time so I wont have to stoop to using a non Land Rover!!

Sorry I misunderstood I thought you meant £1500 to supply a gearbox. supply and fit it's not an unreasonable price. Still it's a lot of money that I'm sure could have been put to other uses.

The annoying thing is when I've recently bought some chequerplate cheap and made my own panels with it to save money instead of buying them, made my own hi lift carrier, made mud flaps even, all to save a few quid (well kind of, I also find it more rewarding to make my own, but you get the idea) then you get hit with a big one.
The funny thing is that my friends say, "I bet you wish you had a different car now, a Mondeo gearbox is about £50".
Thats when you know they really dont get it, it would take a lot more than that to put us off!
 
Timbott, where is that photo of on your avatar. Looks a bit like Newgale to me. Must be Pembrokeshire coastline anyway, it smells of home!!!

I do Maidstone to London most days if your short of wheels.

Thanks for that, its a kind thought, unfortunately I do Folkestone to Maidstone most days, occasionally Canterbury and Herne Bay!
I have managed to borrow a Disco, but the heater doesnt work! Brrrrrrrrrr, but I can't be fussy can I.
