Sheared prop

graemeelliott

Accelerating Away
Snapped a rear propshaft today. Removed the remains and headed home in 2wd.
On jacking the rear of the car up both wheels turn independently.
Diff knackered?

if the propshaft turns when you are turning one wheel and the other wheel doesnt turn thats ok
if you turn one wheel forward and the other wheel goes backwards and prop stays stopped thats ok
if you turn propshaft and one wheel turns brake that one and see if the other one turns as you turn the prop
hope that helps

Graeme, your diff should have survived intact, If there was an issue with it, you wouldn't have gotten all the way home without more clanking noises :D .

Sandy just bein paranoid as someone said that I should check the diff first as it had happened to theirs and it was a damaged diff that broke the prop.

Checked the diff oil and its got water in it so a deep wading kit and oil change coming up, thats the other reason for being paranoid.
