Speedo head woes

Thanks Gridman, that's a very kind offer; can I get back to you if the new cable doesn't cure the problem?
I really don't understand why there are so many 1376s around, so many of the ones for sale on ebay are 1376s, Why? There aren't that many 1 ton LRs around, how many Land Rovers do you see on 900x16 tyres? Anyway, thanks again, the speedo cable came today and I'll be fitting it in the next few days and I'll report on the results shortly after.

Not according to the data I posted above but there's something wrong somewhere...
No problem, just let me know if you want it.

The data I got was from the Smiths Jaeger website.
That is very confusing, your data contradicts mine: Your data shows that both the 1376 and the 1408 are correct for 750 tyres. How can that be since the numbers refer to turns per mile, how can both be correct?

If it's any help I run 7.50x16 on my 109, original speedo which is accurate against GPS.

But mines in kph so that could be a whole different can o worms...

A quick update: I haven't had time to fit the new cable yet but I did test it by connecting it to the faulty speedo head and running it up with my combi-drill in reverse, it was still oscillating so I have decided to get the instrument refurbished. I have chosen Speedograph Richfield to do the job for me and will drop the thing off at their premises which is in Arnold, Nottingham and not too far for me to take it, where I can have a chat with them in person. Cost? £75. plus VAT and Carriage.

Bugger, I just gave a 109 Speedo head away!

That's no help to you though. I think the magnets get weaker over time, and the only company I have heard of that repair them is

But, I know they aren't what their name suggests, as they take a while. About £150 iirc.
What do you guys actually mean when you say a speedo head?

I managed to re-magnetise mine, but it's a pig of a job, you need a calibrated speed control.
Well, mine is at Speedograph Richfield, a two to three week turnaround but I can manage with the 88 head as fitted temporarily, 25 mph indicated is equivalent to thirty mph actual, checked against those signs that light up and tell you how fast you are going. Close enough...
By the way: The speedo cable I ordered from Paddock's turns out to be from Turkey but looks to be well made with perfectly square ends and I don't anticipate any problems.
