starter motor

poxy starter motor went on my truck tonight :(

no motor turning, but the solenoid works. the starter button i wired doesnt wokr but when bridged with a screwdriver the solenoid flicks

anyway, does anybody have an ideas? the battery is fine so are it's connections, the solenoid wokrs but the motor doesn't turn. both connections are still on the motor so it must be an internal fault, can't afford a new motor, just booked a holiday to Prague :D

The sollenoids can become weak, so they move lazily and have poor contact with the internal terminals. When this happens, the situation becomes compounded by arcing, damaging and sooting up the terminals and the copper face of the solenoid and givving little or no conductivity.

I have a spare motor on my 19J. I've never tested it, but I can have a go later this afternoon. I'll let you know if it works. If it does, would £20+ another 10 for postage suit you?

cheers for the offer snagger. but i managed to test the motor properly on the bench and found it was working, solenoid next i stripped the unit cleaned the contacts and the copper barrel, lightly greased it and hey presto one good as new starter :D i think the contact at the end allows the motor to start when the solenoid fully travels inwards or something, mine was dirty could possibly explain why it didnt work?

now i just have to replace my start button, very annoying purchased from a motor factors when i did my conversion, it cost a deep sea diver (£5) and has packed up in a year. :( last time i go to that shop

will get those photos you are after later mate.
