Steam train trips

its a toss up between an hour on the footplate (as posted above) or a whole day out with scoff on a train (with my mum too), possibly severn valley http://www.svr.co.uk/index.php.

What do you think?? 1 hour or the whole day?

Its his 65th by the way, OAP an all, so the whole day one is cheaper LOL

Depends is he a hands on sort of guy or put his feet up and relax type, me I like to be on the footplate even if it's only for an hour or 2.

Surprising the number of landy owners you find are rail/railmodeling fans as well

For just a trip east lancs, llangollen, seven valley, north yorks

then there the 7 narrow gauge railways in wales

However very seasonal most have a fuller timetable in the summer

As for driving shop about, winter tends to be cheaper than the summer

My dad did a days course with about 10 others on the Llangollen mid week low season for about £100 he really enjoyed it but found it quite physical

The day out, scoff on the train and with your Mum sounds better value Steve and your Dad's only sixty-five - not crumbling to bits!:D

Roger - still hasn't been down the post office to get his bus pass!

I did a driving session at the Birmingham railway, Tysley I think it's called, as the leaving present from my friends at Macaroni. It was great - driving Clun Castle. Something so different that it is highly memorable whereas a day out on a train is just another trip similar to one before. We also got an instruction session beforehand, guided tour of the preservation site, and free entry for an 'observer'. The line was very short which is better as you get to do lots of starts and stops and reversing instead of just going going going.
Oh and I got the sweatshirt - which I keep in the landy and will be wearing tonight as an extra layer as it could be a bit cold.

i fancy a ride on this.....
