How Do I? steering pump refurbishment

Hi

My steering pump has just gone pop (well the seal has anyway) spewing ATF all over the place and no power steering :-(

Ive managed to get the pump off the 90 and have now found out the 200 tdi steering pump part nr NTC9070 is just about the most expensive to buy, I havent got £180 handy right at this moment so I thought I'd try replacing the seals

Thing is Ive no idea how to get the triangular shaped flange bit off of the pump ( as this seems to be the only way of getting to the seals.

Does anybody have any advice on how to get this off - do I need heat??

Cheers

Steve

Hiya Steve,
I've tried replacing seals on loads of different hydraulic systems (brake, clutch, steering box etc.) and invariably I've ended up replacing the whole unit eventually. You can refurbish most of the stuff on a Land Rover but personally I think with hydraulic stuff its easier to bite the bullet and buy a new one than have to do the same job twice. When I bought my 110 I had to replace the power steering pump which I was amazed to find was more expensive than the box but hey hoh!

hi Andy

I think you are right, the bullet is almost certainly gonna get chewed. I suppose one benefit whilst this is broken is that its forcing me to fix loads of other problems, front brakes, hand brake, rusty chassis, fuel tank pipe...........

oh the joys!!
