straight through exaust

layalog

In Fourth Gear
i have a 3.9 vogue se 94 it has cats does anyone no of any problems i might have if i where to take off the mid and rear boxes and had a straight through pipe i would be leaving the cats connected

Shouldn't have any probs but you would get more gain if you were to take the cats off:D . Speak to john at J E Engineering.

i have a sports system on mine. when i removed the mid box and replaced it with a straight bit of pipe leaving the back box in place there were no issues except that the police didnt like the noise it made and asked me to fix it or else. sounded like a fighter jet roaring down the road.

The MOT Regs have changed a bit.

a silencer in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a silencer in average condition.

So it can Fail the Test, and we can RFR the little Gets in the Boy Racers....

Chris

And what about removing the cats to get more power? Is it possible?

Yes it is possible to remove the CATS but CATS are required on petrol cars after 1993 and it would probably not pass emmisions test without CATS.

You can get sports CATS that are free flowing but quite expensive.

RFR?

so... with my rangie,
if i were to 'in therory' take off the rear silencer and just happen to have the pipe accidently pop out through the side wing whilst managing to secure itself in a permanent position, and it shouted a little louder than the usual wheezy system but not so loud to make grannies soil themselves at 100 yards,
would i be in a spot of bother with those black and white volvo driving long arm of the law types?

Please bear in mind i live near staines and it is the norm to have a dustbin for an exhaust system.

of course- this is in theory and i'd 'never' think of doing such irresponsible things to my rangie

Reason For Refusal. The new system for an Item Fail.

If it sounds excessive, then it's now a Fail. We have to decide if it is more than a vehicle of the same type with a standard system.

For example, If you have blue washer jet lights, it's too loud.

Chris

I would think in stains it would be quite respectable:D :D :D
No louder than a saxo thats reversed over a dustbin!
But i suppose theroreticaly if you were to make it so as to have an easily removable part that could be replaced with a silencer for the mot there wouldn't be a prob, in theory of course;) ;) !

My old trials Range Rover had a home-made system come with it when I bought it, 2 small silencers exiting out of the side. Most of Somerset & Wilts Land Rover Club Range Rovers have something similar, and they were ALL noisier than mine, no-one ever had a problem with MOT as far as I know. Certainly I never did, and mine had Gun Gum around the welds... And when I say 'noisier', I mean 'beautifully tuned V8 rumble, officer...' Mmmm, I never listened to the radio...
