Hey peeps, bought a new pc today, so though i would disconnect the old two and reshuffle the desk with the intention of transferring programes form one then skipping it...

Moved it over, set it up, powerd it up and im getting System32\drivers\isapnp.sys corrupt, use original windows disk to repair..

Now i dont have the original windows disk as the pc came from a mate who wsa leaving.. How can i get arounf this as i need to transfer stuff off of it before it goes in the trash?? Or am i better removing the harddrive and putting itinto my new pc???

Cheers

Have you the operating disk with the new PC if so you need to do either a repair install or boot into recovery and install the missing dll. file by going into dos and typing D:\ copy C:\ isapnp.sys (if D is your CD ROM)
Alternatively click start / all programmes / accessories / system tools/ system restore and then follow the wizard.
If all this fails take out your c drive and install it as a second hard drive in your new computer's IDE channel, or sata 2, if is a sata drive, remember if its is a IDE drive to alter the little jumper on the back to slave mode. Then you should be able to open the drive and copy and paste the files you want,

I didnt get the disk :(

Should go back to shop and ask.... I think it will probly be easier taking the drive out, that way i dont need to copy and paste, i could just leave it in and run the programes as normal???

Or would the two copies of the operating system clash?
Ie one on old disk and one on new disk???

Cheers

Your machine will not boot if you install two drives with operating systems on them or as two masters. Install the second disk drive (the old one) as a slave by altering the jumper on the back this is easy and there should be a diagram on the disk drive itself showing the positions, you could even choose cable select if you want.
Switch on the machine and go to my computer you will now see two disk drives one will be c the other will have been assigned a letter by windows also, double left click on the second drive and all your files will open chose the ones you want and drag them to your c drive or into my documents your choice
.
