TD5 ECU queston

Mac25

In Second Gear
Hi all,
was wondering if anybody could help me.
Would a 2002 TD5 Def ECU work in my 1999 TD5 Def?
I have been told that on my 99TD5 its not possible to do a down load remap this only works on 2002 onwards.
I have tried a Tunit box to gain extra power but was not happy with the results.
Cheers Mac

There was an article in the Dec 06 LRO about ECU tuning.
They used Autologic, who said their TD5 ECU needed to be changed for the later flash-programmable one, but that some data needed to be transferred from the original (taking about 10 mins). Sounds like maybe not an easy DIY job.

Yes and no...

As standard - No
Post 2002 and Pre 2002 run two different levels of tune, and the engine set up is also slightly different, including different injectors.

Basically pre 2002 is EU2 (the emissions level) and post 2002 is EU3.

You could have a custom tune written for a flash type ECU that will work with your level of engine (i.e a EU2 engine), AFAIK this is what AutoLogic do, and I can sort one out too if needed.
However, I personally don't see the point, and actually don't like that way of doing it.

Your level of ECU is also remappable... but you have to physically change a chip inside the ECU, rather than reflashing it.

I can supply a remapped EU2 ECU on an exchange basis if you wanted one??

You would need to visit someone with diagnostic equipment to change the injector codes on the replacement ECU and to set the alarm coding - takes 10 mins max.
Unless you wanted to pay my travel costs and I'd come to you? ;)

But I can do you a tune to suit you... anything from a normal remap to a full race spec. And it will definitely perform better than a plug in box!!

I can whole heartedly agree with that. Flog the Tunit box for a nice price on ebay and put it towards a quality and safer remap from Ian....I did. :D
