How Do I? td5 V reg tailgate locked and broken mech

divadisco

In Second Gear
Been having problems with tailgate mech jamming WD40 worked only a little - today the tailgate has finally locked up good and proper and wont open. Might be a spring has gone, but I can't get the door open. Have taken the back inside panel off, but can't see how I'm meant to get the door open the mech is not engaging. Any suggestions or photo links would be greatly appreciated.

ive not had to do the td5 yet but usualy there are a number of conecting rods from lock to levers without seeing a pic or the offending artical it sounds like one of them has pelled through its hole at one end or another. if theres a rod not conected to anything but the lock then its easy just get hold with the pliers and pull while opening the door. if theres a rod hanging free from a handel or lock button its a bit more dificult as you have to locate a leaver on the lock that has no rod or electronic actuator attached and very carfully reaching in and turning with finger tips attempt to open door electronic central looking actuators can also be manipulated in this way when the wireing fails.

this happoned on my td5

unlock your disco so you can open all doors (not just the driver one)

go to rear door and using a small tool of some sort remove the green landrover badge.

you will now be able to see the rear catch links, spray with wd40 (or some other cleaner) and try to open using the door catch.

This was showed to me at my local lr dealer and i had to do it myself the other week.

Hope it works for you.

Darryl

SORTED THANKS EVERYONE: Seems the door was out of alignment as well having a broken lock. The badge thingy worked perfectly - and some brute force managed to sort the rest. Cheers.
