To Additive or not to Additive

I have been using BP Ultimate diesel fuel for a couple of months in my 200 TdI and I have been impressed with the fuel both in making the engine quieter, and more responsive.
However the price of the fuel a litre is a bit off putting, so I was wondering if there is an additive I can purchase to add to ordinary diesel that does more or less the same thing as BP Ultimate diesel fuel, but works out cheaper.

I inherited some from the previous owner, but it doesn't say on the bottle how often you should use it.

I've used it once in 4k miles.

Andy.

I use Millers too, if it's the Millers Diesel Power Plus, you should use it every tankful. I have a big 5L can and just put a splash in each time I fill it up.

I don't use it on the Merc CDi though, MB strictly advise not to use additives yet they include a 'Fuel System Cleaner' in their servcie?

Are you talking a general additive here or and injector cleaner? I assume the former. The cleaners shouldn't be used more than about every 3kmiles as they also disolve the seals in the injectors.

Millers Diesel Plus / looks like this fits the bill

Looked at thier web site which informed..........

A highly efficient fuel treatment to add to diesel fuel to enhance combustion and performance.
Application Added to diesel fuel to provide an increase in cetane number and to maintain injector cleanliness. Also contains a fuel pump lubricant enhancer.
Use applicator bottle. One measure (20mls) treats 20 litres of diesel fuel.
User Benefits mproves combustion leading to higher power output and reduced fuel consumption.
*Lowers emissions - especially important at MOT time !
*Prolongs fuel pump life even when running

Will certainly try some at 500ml for £8.30 That works out at 1.32p a litre which when added to ordinary pump price diesel is cheaper than BP's ultimate fuel.

Theres also the Millers Diesel Power sport 4?

I've been using the ordinary stuff, removed the EGR at the same time.
Engine certainly running better now

Hi

Used to be caled MillerDiesel clean!!

I have been using it for about 12 years, it not only makes the engine smoother strangely its also quieter. And it isn't just me that has noted that.

Also one for TEMPLAR a friend had an old Renault 18 with starship milage. Not a cat in hells of passing the emmision test. It was given a heavy dose,(half a gallon!!) when put back on the tester the emmissions did not even register. much to the surprise of the tester who was his brother in law.
