I would guess that you need the tube to cool down.
Im guessing that you tele is a CRT TV?
Do you have any speakers ie surround speakers close to your tv as the magnets within would disrupt the screen..

I say this as i once accidently put a rather large speaker right next to my tv(only for a few mins)and i had colour rainbows if you like one the side of the screen to which the speaker was sat next too....

I turned the tv off for a while and all was right soon after..

Just a thought...:)

If think that was pretty much the jist of that forum too.

Why would you have a forum about TV screens? I bet their christmas parties rock!!! lol

See those magnets on sticks? The ones for picking up dropped nuts and bolts? They make really pretty patterns on TV screens.

Shame we didnt know it was a permanent pattern. Had to buy a new telly!

I read on this internet that those can be used to fix the problem. You stick the thing in a cordless drill and apply to the TV; the spinning magnet removes the magnetic fields built up on the screen. Use a magnet too close and it will deform the shadowmask/aperture grille permanently.

DO NOT PLAY WITH MAGNETS AROUND A COLOUR TV

Remember; DON'T try this at home on your own TV!!! This is very damaging to the screen and often cannot be fixed!!!

If you do you will magnetise the shadow mask this is a thin gauze grill that is interlaced in your tube. This mask is made of Invar metal, an alloy that unfortunately is easily magnetized. Once this has been magnetised and placing a magnet at the side of a TV can do this then the only way to rectify it is to have he tube degaussed. Some modern TV's especialy computer monitors have degaussers built in but be warned many do not

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Forgot about the big words... thanks.

The technique I mention produces an alternating magnet field. This scrambles the magnetic field built up on the screen. Reading further, a TV repairman would use a mains (AC) powered electromagnet - effectively the same technique.

If the damage is only slight then do not use any of the techniques I mention at close range - you'll almost certainly make it worse rather than better. Or even better - just live with it (if you can). Or use the built in degauss if available (a slight discolouration should be fixed by the built in degauss coil).

I should be more careful with things like this. It is a method I have used so I know it does work. But I can't regulate your use of the procedure. I should have made that fact very clear. It's like explaining how to light dynamite: you could understand the procedure; but that little extra detail of letting go of it might not be as obvious to you as it is to me.

you can light dinamite with a match it makes a very good fire lighter on wet coals

well since i started this post the shadowing has dissapeared????? and its been there for months, how would u find out if a tv had a degauss coil?

It should tell you in the manual. If you have not got the manual look in the menu probably under settings, may be headed de-magnetise this is not to be confused with the setting that allows you to square the picture against the earths magnetic field (only with large tube Televisions. You may have to press several buttons in sequence on the remote to activate a degauss. When the coil is activated it makes a rather strange sound and the whole tube seems to shake.

Another warning here degauss to often and this will also damage the shadow mask be warned
