Tyre Advice Please

Overdrive!
Hi all, pricing up tyres for the freebie...not desperate yet but had all the wheels off at the weekend and paired them up as good as i could with the best ones (most tread) on the rear and the worst on the front...the spare is just about on the limiters now so is ok for emergency use as it's not illegal.
at the moment all the tyres are pirelli scorpions - problem being it has 17 inch wheels on so i'm limited to tyre style and wondered if anyone had any ideas or knew of some decent tyre prices etc..
tyre size is 225/55/17
i've been quoted £105 all in for pirelli if i have a pair or £98 if i have 4 from kwik fit.
£111 each at a local tyre sales each all in.
£116 each at craddocks all in.
michellin £135 all in at local tyre sales.
khumo £97 all in at local tyre sales or £89 all in at craddocks.
no other tyre listed and are all road biased because of the size!
anyone heard of khumo? any good??
and does anyone know of a all terrain tyre this size? or should i get a set of old steel wheels for any gentle offroading i may end up doing?:)

i was in exactly the same situation

What i have done is bought some General grabber AT2s and mouted them on some cheap (mine were free) steel rims and now run the car like that. The car now works much better in the mud and is still good fun on the road :)

I am passivly looking for some 15inch alloy rims but tbh im not really fussed as the car looks decent with the steels

Can't help you with the 17" tyres, but I have 5 BFG MT's on steel 15" rims I am thinking of selling, plenty of tread left on them.

Have you tried blackcircles.com?

i had khumo AT on my trooper they wer crap off road i got stuck all the time even on wet grass feelds. i would not buy them if i was you . theirs lots of 15 inch alloys for freelanders on ebay and not bad prices and u can get a beter selection of tyers for the 15 inch and cheeper:p
