Hi all.

After sorting my PC and it now seems to be running in a stable condition, and is fast and just what it was like when I brought the thing I would like to upgrade it a little.

Currently it's:

3500+ AMD 939 pin
512Mb Ram (DDR 3200)
5700LE Graphics card (NVIDIA)

There's also a hard drive and a good sound card plus other good bits, but basically I would like to sort the memory and the Graphics card as I enjoy playing the odd game and don't want an Xbox or Playstation.

The Ram has me a little lost TBH. I would like to go above the 1GB area for memory, but what do I need? I've done some looking and there seems to be so much to choose from I'm just utterly lost. Also the graphics card has me lost to.

If you had about £200-300 to spend what graphics card and memory would you get?

I'm thinking two 1Gb memory sticks and the best graphics card I can get with what's left of the money. Sorry to be vague, just don't really understand what's new. I just used to buy some memory stick it in and away I went.

Cheers

Most worthwhile upgrade would be the RAM, depending on what you use the machine for mainly. Graphics card only needs to be upgraded if you play games!

I would agree with you, Memory is my first priority. Can I just got two sticks of 3200 DDR ram (1GB each) and stick them in? (any make) I have three slots 1 is used, but I would remove the 512 stick and go with two of the same, so as not to mix and match. (I've been told that's bad.)

Most motherboards will take up to 2Gig, your plan of removing the 512 is good. As you say its best to keep the RAM matched, but It may be worth sticking the 512 in and seeing if it gives you any problems (random crashes etc). No harm in trying :)

So if I were you I would get 2x 1gig and just slot it in!

I wouldn't bother with the 512 because if it is a slower type ram it may not give you visible problems but it will slow the bus access to all the modules. This is because the access to the ram will only work at the slowest speed!

I would check online for the best ram for you motherboard. It'll make a massive difference.

Good Luck!
