V8 water in sump help please.

Overdrive!
Hi All.

My V8 1974 carb is taking in water somewhere. The engine oil imulsifies and I end up with a few pints of clear water when I drain it off. It is not coming from the coolant system its not dropped at all. I was doing some very deep wading the other day so thats where it came from but how and what can I do to stop it. Oh and there are no oil leaks and nothing obvious to how its getting there.

Thanks

I have that 'you'r wrong Steve' feeling, but here goes:

Is it possible that the action of the oil pump creates temporary low pressure in the sump?

If so, then a less than perfect sump pan gasket could conceivably let that amount of water in?

Otherwise, I just can't see how water would get in if its not coolant.

Dont think it went down dipstick but will check where dipstick tube enters engine and there is no oil anywhere and would have thought that if water got in oil would come out. it very weird.

Cheers for suggestions I will be tyring any ides and checking all bolts for tightness round dump and so.
