Avoid the M25 and M4.

Depending on the time you have take a trip along the south coast from Dover through Rye, Hastings, Eastbourne to Brighton.

From Dover take the A20 to Folkstone, from there take the A259 coast road.

Along the way you pass Port Lympe (nice gorilla conservation thing going on there, past Hyhe, New Romey, Rye (one of the homes of Paul MaCartny and Spike Miligan, God rest his soul).

Then carry on through Hastings, Bexhill to Eastbourne. At Eastbourne take the A27 to Brighton (keep a look out on the left for the Long Man of Wilmington).

Keep following the A27 until you get to the A3 just outside of Southampton then follow that until you find the A272 to Winchester.

From Winchester I'd either use the A34 up to Newbury then the A4/A420 to Bristol or nip across to Salisbury ( maybe find Stonehenge on the Way) then shoot up the A345 to Marlborough the join the A4/A420 to Bristol.

Will take you a lot longer than the Motorway but at least you will have somthing nice to look at.

only advice i can give is avoid South Wales as its too industrial,we have holidayed for last 3yrs in North Wales where we found both the locals friendly and scenery beautiful :D ,saying that not going to North Wales this year looking for somewhere else lol thats only cause mrs wants a change :(

Well south east Wales maybe, but get beyond Swansea into south west Wales and, although the 'lanin' might be a bit restricted the beaches and coastline are second to none:)

cheers, Tim

Agree, go past swansea and you start getting to some really nice areas :)

Pembrokeshire is home to Wales' most pristine beaches, the majority of which reside within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

From the Welsh Assembly Government website:D

You haven't been in Wales long enough other wise you would know that WAG is biased to the south:D

From the same website

North West Wales is arguably the most beautiful of all the Welsh regions. The Snowdonia mountain range itself may well justify such a claim; it's the tallest and most spectacular in Wales.

Imgine 2 Englishman having a p155ing match over which part of Wales is best.:D:D:D

Rye is worth seeing.
its a very old village and really worth taking half an hour to walk around.:)

As is Dover Castle, Hasting Castle & Caves. Pevensy Catle and the Norman Church. The South Coast has got alot going for it.... thanks to all the invading armies for your input :)
