we had our house broken into today and apart from just taking money, jewellery etc they took our spare key for our 2001 td5 disco.

#then tonight they are trying to steel it as the car keeps being unlocked ..not by us.

Police now thing the house was broken into for the keys and just took what they could get there hands on.

My disco is now parked at work (inside) and i hope the insurance will spend some of our insurance money on a lock set and alarm code reset.

We live near Birmingham and if your are within this area then keep an eye on yours..

You could always fit a wheel clamp and crook lock, until you get the locks replaced?

If it were me, I'd lie low in another car close-by, keeping a watch out for them (perhaps with a large friend for company, failing that, a can of Mace).

If and when you caught them in the act, you would (a) achieve an immense amount of satisfaction performing a citizens arrest and (b) you'd get you key-fob back.

Perhaps not PC, but I detest this sort of thing.

A nice idea, I am sure we would all like to do the same, but unfortunately in this day and age you have to be very careful, even if they are little scrotes they may have a knife or worse!!

my wife would not let me wait in the boot(with cover over) with a tommy bar as she was at witts end and would not stop in the house on her own..
Trust me i would have hit anyone with tommy if i had the chance ..

police think that the house was broken into for the keys and they just took anything that they could carry.

cant have been that smart as they took mobile phones ...but no chargers
my zen mp3 player ..again without charger

and left a stat nav in box

mine you they took other items ...money. kids playstation,ds2
and disco insurance policy...but left my 90 one.

Plus other items which i wont post on here for reasons as there could be a good chance that they get nobbled.

The Toyota hilux that I use during the day at work got stolen a week past on Friday. The manager who had it home with him said that his house was broken into and the only things they took were the keys to the 4x4 and his sports car. They left the keys on the roof of said car but took the japper. Police found it 5 days later parked in a street in a rough town 15 miles away, keys in the ignition, sounds still in it, loose change and all personal belongings in it too. The police dusted it for prints and we got it back. Now I've heard that the thieves steal cars to get home after house breaking because if caught they will have their own confiscated, but who steals a car and leaves it as it was? Hell, I could have done with the BFG all-terrain's off it for the Disco:D

I heard this as well plus until you tell the Police the car can get though all those number reading devices, round here the Police have had a campagn to get uninsured cars off the road, many were driven by those involved in crimminal activities, now they nick cars including older ones just to get around

The makers of semtex have missed a golden opportunity. Can you imagine being able to phone your car and being able to say "This vehicle will self destruct NOW"

There would be a good market for "Protected by Semtex - the exploding one" stickers :)
