well i got one!!

rickyrooo1

Overdrive!
after posting on here and taking into account all things i asked,i ended up breaking all the rules of what i thought i wanted ....:D i was adamant i wanted a 5 door diesel and iv'e just bought a 3 door petrol....
faced with the high mileage some of the diesels have done for the money i wanted to spend i worked out a petrol would be more financially viable.
so i 've bought a 51 plate (december 2001) 1.8 3 door special edition called a braemar.
its apparantley based on the s model but has lots of extras such as 17 inch alloys central locking side bars twin roofs and roof bars cd player etc etc.it's from a local dealer has 45,000 miles on it 2 previous local owners full history and he is doing the head gasket etc as part of the deal.it was up for 4,999 i got it for 4,800 cash so although i've seen cheaper i'm happy at that.shock was £190 a year tax when my 2.5 defender is only £170 but i don't mind;) it's getting serviced and full mot and i can have it saturday :) i get 3 months parts and labour warranty so i'll be checking with you guys what i need to shake bang and hit to see if it needs fixing!!
i'll post a pic when i can if anyone is interested cheers guys :p

I got a similar deal on a 2000 plate 1.8XEi with 39k on the clock and full service history, leather, HDC and so on.

If the dealer is doing the head gasket make sure he sends the head away for pressure testing and skimming - if necessary. While he is at it, get him to the cambelt.

I Had mine for a couple of days and the battery failed followed very quickly by the water pump.

Hope you have a better introduction than I did!

When he does the HG, make sure he puts on the latest version. (Which apparently should cure the HGF problems ??) Good luck and congrats with the buy.

yes head is coming off and being done etc etc, i didn't even have to ask he does them all as a matter of routine he says,i will ask him to do the cam belt but to be honest i'd have thought he would if the head is coming off....i've got 3 months warranty or i can buy more if i want so i'll find anything as soon as i can i hope.....time will tell, anyway heres a pic off his website;)

Nice - would look better without the roof rails though. If you take them off send them over here as they would look much better on mine :)

Yeah make sure you get him to fit the new Multi-layer head gasket (i think it's the only part available from Lr now a-days). Only time will tell if it cures it though.

just rang him and he confirms he always has head checked and skimmed if required, always fits proper gaskets and always changes timing belt!...sounds too good to be true?? just hope there are a few decent dealers left and i've found one!!;)
