Made a front recovery point for Lab Rover from some scrap I had lying around

I had an old Series extended spring shackle hanging around. Just need to cut it down a bit then drill a tap a few holes. If I could only find the other one I would have a pair.

Found the other one.

Rainy day today and I’m a fair weather cyclist so i had plenty of time to do a bit of draw filing.

Also made the bits for a quick release ratchet strap. I have a small Jerry can that attaches to the ladder on the back of Lab Rover. Doesn’t need to be on there permanently so a couple of bits off aluminium and a pip pin and I can easily remove the strap when not required.

Oh crap, what have I done...

Been wanting to change the rear O ring for ages as it was weeping very slightly in Morocco. Ive been put off removing it so far as its a right faff of a job, but I bit the bullet yesterday.
Replacing the Oring wasnt hard, just fiddly without removing the distributor block and having pingfuckits flying everywhere...

I'm resisting mission creep now and trying not to think about replacing other bits

While its off though, Im going to check the timing and set it at 1.6 lift at TDC.
"Mission creep"... I call it "whilst I'm at it", caused me to re-build both axles!

It crept a bit...
In replacing the O ring I dislodged a small spacer under the plunger so had to remove/clean/refit the distribution block anyway (its fiddly but not bad if you are careful), then while it was off and on the bench I thought I had better replace the front seal.
That was another faff as the old one didnt want to come out and it would be fairly easy to damage the housing or shaft while removing it.
Anyway, done now and back on the engine, but waiting for a fuel lift pump!

Lift pump fitted, diesel bled and running fine. I cant test drive on the road as waiting on insurance renewal

Next job is check over the top end. Replace the valve stem caps, check any wear on rocker shaft and reset clearances.

Fitted a new rear left red light unit...sixteen euros from Germany and delivered by sweaty paw on Friday.

The difference between it and the twenty year old original on the right is enormous...although I have to find the short causing the fuse to blow on the right hand side so it is not working yet!

Today put the grease in my swivel ..finally got the filler nut off with a pair of stilsons IMG_4257.webpnothing else would do what I have ..anyhow I had a brainwave and decided to put the grease in my Sealey oil sucker .IMG_4259.webp That way the grease went in the filler hole and not everywhere else ..problem the grease was a bit to thick to fit through the hole in the end of the tube ..so slow and drops at a time was the thing to do out of the plastic sachet it came in .i managed about half the contents.IMG_4261.webpIMG_4258.webphopefully it won’t come out the bottom anytime soon …IMG_4260.webp
