About a fiver on Amazon.
On the 200Tdi it allows me to use a 1/2 ratchet with an extension from underneath to loosen the cannister. I then reach up and wind it off by hand (yes, oil does run up my sleeve if I forget to roll up my overalls!).
Unsure if it would be as useful on yours, but they are less likely to damage or distort the filter walls...

For that money I`d try one, can't be any worse than the chain type which always seems to wreck the canister, making it just as messy as an original!
And why do the filters always seem to be tightened to about a billion pounds on a giants torque wrench?

Well, hopefully you will be doing it every time so it wont be over-tightened again!
Hand tight is the recommendation. Britannica Mike says tighten with an oily hand until it slips!

They seem to self tighten if left on for a long time. We once had trouble with the oil filters on our trucks being undertightened- oil all over the road. I suppose 'hand tight' when you are a 16 year old streak of **** trainee is not very tight! David

Today on Carmen (1977 Santana 109 D LWB) I replaced the outer small round rear view mirrors on the wings, which are frankly not very efficient, with a pair of same period restored door hinge mirrors. Note diffrent hinge type from Solihull builds, so some adaptation was required but all went well. Small works but satisfying, efficient visiblity and much safer I feel...

Yes I confirm, the Land Rovers built in Solihull compared to those built in Linares (Santa Anna factory), or other sites where Land Rovers of various denominations were manufactured. I could have worded it better but that's how it came up...

Bosch ones, but on a VW T4, has a nut shape on the bottom.. K&N, but on the bike, has a bolt through it..and of course the Landy is in a bolted on canister.

Used to use yon tool for the filters on pugs and fords. Though one VW needed a really big ring socket. Like this..

Think I still have that....somewhere.

Well i would say that the water from last time was from the air line .. it is now hanging in my cupboard ... which is running at about 20/24 c.. over night whilst hopefully the water will dry out ready for tomorrow and painting the roof ... the gun was not as clean from the last use as it should have been .. damn... and i thought it was not the gun not being clean properly last time .. so i started altering the knobs on the gun ... big mistake .. gun now cleaned properly and will reset the controls in the morning ... so pics of the side panels that were painted today could not leave them outside tonight .. it is getting cold overnight .. so they are in the kitchen... staying warm ..( you can tell i am not married ...) they did not turn out as good as i had hoped .. but if i am still not happy in a few days time i will flat them down and respray ...so bonnet and front rad panel next week when the sunshine is back again ... the welder is back from his holidays and will tack the vent flap fixings back on the bulkhead ..( back in the days of old i would happily use arc or gas to weld .. i could see what i was doing then .. but now i can not see the joins clearly .. and Paul does a lovely weld at a very good price so i would be a fool .. well yes i am a fool .. but..) and then i can do the bulkhead and engine bay .. i am putting off until last the doortops .. just the thought of stripping those bloody screws out is giving me nightmares .. maybe i should send them to series G.. he seems to like the job ...and then i will start stripping out the heater .. etc and paint the inside ...
