Trekker
Bought a second hand labrador mebee 8 years ago, 1 careful owner, never raced or rallied, but got to the Pedigree Chum gun dog finals as a lad. Took us a while to figure out where all the carrots were going to from the vegetable rack. Turned out previous owner had a rabbit. Dog couldn't cope with rabbit getting fed summat different, so developed a taste for carrots (and even parsnip - just tried it).
Anyone elses do similar?
New terrier does it as well now.

Beth nicks the strawberries from the garden and cracks open cherry stones to eat the inside although they have to be left out for a few weeks on the patio

Our two labs will eat anything:eek:

When the young one was a pup he nabbed the chilli's off my kebab:D He so deserved that:D:D:eek::D:rolleyes:

For years, I actually believed that I should keep him on the same brand food in case it upset his stomach! As if.
Offspring work part time in an indian restaurant and get a curry to bring home after work. Needless to say both dogs lick out the foil trays. Has a better effect on their digestion than sheep sh*t

we had a walnut tree in the garden in cz the mrs dads dog would crack and eat the nut then spit out the shells :p

Here he is

Eat carrots, but not their favourite

My pointer loves fruit and veg, except salad.

Drool for peaches, most fruit, most veg, current one loves fresh peas - cooked or raw.

My cat eats chips from the chip shop!

All dogs love chips don't they?

Strawberries - when do I get chance to eat them?? Dogs nosing round strawberry patch, take them all, don't even care if they are ripe.

Labs always eat anything:D

Curry very popular in this household, pizza as well (all homemade, but the spicey principle is the same).

Ok, beaten there. Did have a ridgeback that jumped up to the fruit bowl, took the banana, carefully peeled it, and left the empty skin on the floor.

Seriously, regarding diet, we did read somewhere that dogs' sense of smell is far stronger than their sense of taste and you should try and vary their diet. Ours get an all-round meal plus tasty aka smelly addition, but we try and differ the addition each day. Seems to work. Thought the tinned stuff was meant to be largely water anyway. :p :dog:

Tia our Ridgeback eats anything and everything but is quite partial to grapes. She nibbles them every so delicately with her front teeth.

My German Shepard would do the same thing, she had it down to a science and somehow would meticulously remove all the nutmeat from any nut and never any shell. She was especially fond of pistachios. We finally banned her from them because we figured they weren't doing her any good.

Prior to her I had another German Shepard- he was nuts for bananas.

OK the cat haters among you will start to hit me in a minute but my cat (TIDDLES don't ask just don't blooming ask) adores chips yet will not drink milk, or water from a bowl. it has to be running (although she has been caught dipping in the lavvie) (in a blokes house is that safe)  I normally leave the bath tap running for 10 Min's or so so she can have a drink

:D :D See above comment about banana-loving Ridgie.
:D Classic.

Ours really embarrassed me on a walk one day. A woman had just peeled a banana about 20 meters in front of us walking in the same direction. Tia must have smelled it and from behind, lept up and snatched the woman's banana just as she was about to sink her teeth into it. Luckily the woman was a dog owner and saw the funny side. :o

Walking along the North Yorkshire coast one day with our two dogs at the time (labrador and cross setter) and started chatting to a couple with rucksacks who were clearly doing the Cleveland Way.

"How far have you got" (meaning the walk) says us as Ben (the greedy labrador) jumps up and takes sandwich out of her hand...

"About half way through my tuna sandwich" she said. :o :o

"Err, the walk, I meant - and he likes tuna anyway"..

Walked on rapidly with contented labrador..... well no more sandwiches left anyway:D

Doors, she loves doors
This is one nights work.
Its the door between the utility room [Lucy's bedroom] and the garage.
One night she decided she didn't want the door there and did this. She is about thirteen years old, has always slept in there, doesn't chew stuff and is more than content on her own.
The only thing we can think was she heard a loud noise [she is terrified of loud bangs] in the night and panicked, got started and liked the feeling of the wood in her teeth...In the morning she sat there amongst the bits, wagging her tail and waiting for her biscuit.... With a look on her face saying "wassup"

Some years ago my dad and myself had an allotment and also a G.S.D. It took us a couple of years to understand why we never got runner beans to grow lower than about 3ft. from the ground. One day we were at the allotment when one of us happened to see the dog eating the beans right off the plant. She would only ever eat what she could easily reach.
