Got a WOF first time if trying yesterday:Mexicanwa .

WOF or Warrant of Fitness is the NZ MOT equivalent, only its every 6 months for older vehicles. The last two times I've ended up with repair bills for a few hundred dollars. This time I took it in in plenty of time, and only after I'd attended to all the obvious stuff. My pre-test repairs were:

  • Treated, filled and painted the rust holes in the top corner of the bulkhead.
  • As above for a bit of body capping and the rear corner trim.
  • Riveted the rear panel and side panel back on to the corner trim where I bust it off-roading a couple of weeks ago.
  • Tightened the handbrake.
  • Checked all the wheel bearings and adjusted one that had a bit of slack.
  • Lubed all the steering column UJs and the top bearing.
  • Reworked the wiring to the rear indicators and stop lamps.
I feel like I'm just about geting the hang of this Land Rover ownership now. Maybe I'm ready for another one:rolleyes: .

Well done mate.

What is the emission test? What are the figures given that NZ is pretty squeaky? I'm in the same boat as you, every six months for 10+ year old vehicle here.

I'm interested to know the emission rate, ie what percentage, here it is 3.4% (+ or - a couple depending on the tester).....

And how did you get through that as you haven't mentioned it. Anyway. Still good on yer. :cheering::cheering:

I nearly spat my tea out when I read that.

The only reason NZ is green is there aren't enough people here to spoil it...yet!

In October last year, an emissions test became part of the Warrant inspection for the first time. It is a subjective test for excessive smoke, which can also be enforced by traffic police on an ad-hoc basis. The diesel is still way behind European spec in terms of its sulphur content (although all the Jap import diesels are finding it low enough that its leaking through seals) and there is no commercially available bio-diesel.

Just to give myself a fighting chance in the smoke test though, I drove round the vblock out of work on the way to the test centre to make sure the engine was good and warm, and I put injector cleaner in the last two tanks.

Well they always used to have "Be a tidy Kiwi campaigns" and emphasise their nuclear free policy, and whinge on about global warming (for obvious reasons so don't even say it - Kate got sunburnt when cloud bathing). :D

Have bought some more stuff for the injectors and the fuel - gonna give it a good go. If they fail me we might think again about NZ!

Emission test you say mmmmm all we used to do was run the car in, if we had aviation fuel in it, drain the tanks, change the needles in the carbs and hey presto no problem.......

Cheers
