windscreen wipers won't park...

Andrew G

Shifting Up
I have trawled this forum for a solution to the problem I have with my windscreen wipers that have recently developed a mind of their own but still feel compelled to seek advice...

Basically on intermittent they wouldn't park, then later this spread to speed 1 and 2. For a while I could manually stop them at the right place but now can't do this as they continue for a second or two parking wherever the feel like!!!

Basically is it the motor, relay, park switch or something else? Is it a process of elimination, in which case where should I start? What is best / worst case scenario in terms of aggravation (and cash) ???

Most probably the park switch, when I had problems with my wipers it was with the timer relay and they wouldn't stop at all until I pulled the timer/relay. Oddly enough, when I went to my local Lucas place to get a cheaper replacement than Land Rover prices, I was informed that it was an obsolete part, no longer manufactured by Lucas

Bearmach also sell them.

It is a Lucas switch and should cost about £8.00 + Vat.

I bought one for a mate the other day for helping me out with my truck and he's chuffed now as his wipers behave as they should do.

Deja Vu, had the same problem exactly, twas indeed the park switch and tomsk is bang on with price, was a ten minute job to fit but was so satisfying!.

I know the price because I bought a new motor for £40.00.
The fault on my wipers turned out to be a siezed spindle arm going to the wiper blade.
Once I'd stripped it all down and found the fault, I went to get a new spindle unit from Bearmach and bought my friend a park switch for his truck for helping me out.

Once all fitted we tried our wipers and they parked properly.
(Very excited by this as both of us had never seen this happen before).

Then when we put the wiper switch in the downward position and found we had delayed wipers it was like we had won the lottery.

Can agree with that Tomsk, felt well chuffed, it wasn't that hard in the overall scheme of things but teh fact is i did it myself.

I've worked until now on the idea that if I keep windows clean & wipers work (after a fashion) then it ought pass the MOT ok.
But you make it sound like an easy enough job for me to attempt at some point.
