XP Won't start

Morning all
A while ago I put an evaluation copy of XP Pro onto my laptop, it now seem the evaluation has expired and all I now get to is the "Welcome" page.

When that is on the screen i then get a box popup to say

"The evaluation period for this copy of Windows has ended. Windows cannot start. To continue using windows, please purchase and install a retail copy of the product"

Any Idea how I can get it back to XP Home without using my Boot CD?

Cheers all

I'm trying to save my docs from being lost using the boot CD

How do go about starting in safe mode? I can't remember

I have an external 250 gb hard drive so at least I can drag all my photos over before I get the boot CD out.

you should be able to over install without formating the drive and thus your personally files should remain intact. Best to back them up first like you plan anyway.

I've no idea what I would have done without my external HD (many times),lol

1 other thing, the fan in the laptop has started making a hell of a racket during start up, it's 2 years old now so it wouldn't suprise me if it's dust and the like.

Is cleaning it something I could do myself?

Have a look at this item on ebay mate.
Item number :300066652792.

Get yourself 2 to save on the P/P. I got a some and it works a treat, get the nozzle end of the hoover near the computer and blow the dust towards the hoover nozzle-hope this makes sense!!!

Cheers
Ian

Probaby easier to buy new fan. they aren't expensive and simply clip on to the CPU. If you know what CPU is in your PC any pc shop will point you in the right direction. If you don't watch the screen on startup and it'll tell you.

Seeing as she has a laptop, it's not that easy. It all depends on the make and model, but I'd suggest getting the old compressed air on the go and give it a good cleanout.
