What did you do to your Series today?

So we thought we where making progress: just checking a fluid leak from bellhousing (not usual) but then realised that the bellhousing was sitting on crossmember and needed 1/2" spacer under gearbox mounts to clear by only 1/4 also noticed the bellhousing has an usual size of drain hole. So my thinking is engine and gearbox? out and check out drain hole (will need a plug for wading) and possible also modify the cross member to suit.

Can somebody remind me if engine/gearbox can come out in one piece from front?
Pretty sure you can't get engine and gearbox out together with the bulkhead in place. There's not enough room to go forwards even with the radiator panel off (which I'd recommend anyway)

The engine balances reasonably centrally without the box, I thing you'd struggle to get a spreader bar that would balance with box as well. I've done three engine outs and it's challenging enough with engine alone!

The whole engine and transmission balances lovely on the rear engine lifting ring. However, you would need to remove the bulkhead first to take it out in one go. David

Is that a later engine looks like 200tdi to me series 2.25 drain is on the veertical face.
I have drilled a hole through nut of 200 bell housing plug so i can start it into hole with a terminal screwdriver pushed through the hole but rareley fit it should have had it in for the river crossing on friday but find any water that gets in comes back out quite quickly.

So I took out the back window to replace it with the one given to me by the bloke I bought it off then realised the window is too small I need a 21/22cm width one… have tried various LR parts suppliers but not much luck on a Saturday the window I have is 18cm and will not fit View attachment 527888View attachment 527890View attachment 527891View attachment 527889View attachment 527892
try bell glass Rainham Medway, thy made my front windrows and were very cheap.

Lifted the engine yesterday, had to remove oil filter but it is a Rover P4 engine. Found it easier to remove front engine mounts first (will shorten thread length when refitting).

Clutch is finished and there is a lot of engine oil in bell hosing and baked onto the flywheel. So more new parts.

Hole in clutch housing was done with a core drill approx. 1" dia. and all the swarf was in the housing. Plan to blank this hole and drill and fit standard wading plug in correct place. Anyone known the size and thread?

Then there is the crossmember to modify to give clearance. Maybe lift the gearbox to ease access.

Finally got all my lights rewired and working. Never done electrics before so quite pleased with myself. If I had to give any advice it would be to check all contacts and earth's over and over, as 90% of my problems were contacts and earth's. If you can't get something to work leave it and go back to it with a fresh mind another day. Does anyone know the size of the bezel nut that fits the toggle switch on the 2 speed heater motor. I've got toggle switches but the nuts are to small. I've seen them for sale on Ebay but for £5 50 for 2 don't won't to get wrong size

Think I might have a spare bezel but in among my bits and pieces. I'll have a look tomorrow

Went for a spin through the village today in the ex mil 109 and was greeted by a police camera van.
Not sure as to the accuracy of the speedo as I shot past him so turned round and asked him how fast I was going.
' Not very' says he ' but if you want to check it come back at 30 on your dial and I'll clock you'
Came back just over 30 and it clocked at 31.
Pleased with that.
Turned out he was ex army and a landy fan. Had a pleasant chat and went on my way.....hope I don't get a 31 in a 30 ticket though...🤔

I have one, it is a different style to the originals. It is a hexagon nut instead of the ring style with the slots

Blew my headgasket two weeks ago....
Last week i had to fix it, in the driveway, in the rain.
At least it was dry for assembly.

I had to drive home 25km with this hole in the gasket. Ran pretty well and still did 60-70 km/h!

Go back and ask him for his digital calibration certificate.....☺️ Every two years ! ( ...maybe not eh if he was a good'un 😉)

Splashed out on a wheel carrier today , not sure whether to mount it on bonnet or under the rear 🤔 ( rear tank removed years ago )
