90 door seals on series 3 bulkhead

barneyrubble

Overdrive!
i know you can fit 90 door seals to series vehicles , but i think that the lip needs grinding off on the bulkhead and rear body , i haven't got the door seals yet so is this right or a load of cobblers ?

Yes the lip needs removing for the 90 seals. Bungle's built in 1984 and has push on seals so it could depend on the age of the panels. Any one know how you tell the difference between series and 90 seals?? I am after some too.:D

Thats a question I was going to ask, so thanks jon and barny. As its a job that needs doing with my SIII.

I know that DLS should stock them, they were about £15 each I think.

There have been multiple supersessions on the one piece door seals however there is very little difference between any of them and in actual fact most of the 3rd party ones are exactly the same and will fit either the earlier Serires IIIs that have the multiple seals with the lip ground off or the later transitional Series IIIs that had the one piece seal fitted as standard.

The Relevant Part Numbers with supercessions are as follows:

Front RH Door - MTC4112 (SIII), MWC1080 (up to VIN LA935726), ALR4936 (from VIN LA935727 to VIN VA134184), CFE102720 (from VIN VA134185 to VIN WA159806) and CFE102980 (from VIN XA159807)

Front LH Door - MTC4113 (SIII), MWC1081 (up to VIN LA935726), ALR4937 (from VIN LA935727 to VIN VA134184), CFE102730 (from VIN VA134185 to VIN WA159806) and CFE102990 (from VIN XA159807)

Rear Side RH Door - MTC4114 (SIII), MWC1082 (up to VIN LA935726), ALR4938 (from VIN LA935727 to VIN WA159806) and CFE103000 (from VIN XA159807)

Rear Side LH Door - MTC4115 (SIII), MWC1083 (up to VIN LA935726), ALR4939 (from VIN LA935727 to VIN WA159806) and CFE103010 (from VIN XA159807)

Rear Door - MTC4111 (SIII and up to VIN LA935726), ALR4929 (from VIN LA935727 to VIN XA167599)

Interesting all this as I have really got fed up with getting into Laughing Boy circa 5am to find a very wet seat. The previous owner of L.B. has a lot to answer for. He replaced the O.E. door seals with some that were designed for something called a Ford Escort. There was certainly a possibility that the seals could work but this guy clearly had little idea of the basic principles involved.
Last month I got fed. I keep forgetting to check the seats at 5 am and comments from fellow Posties about my unusually glossy trousers was wearing a bit thin.
So off to Bearmach I went. Now they do a one piece door seal for £16 but they're out of stock and you would have to grind the lip off.
In any case I spent a ot of time removing the Escort seal, 3cwt of mastic and cleared all the rivet holes. So I opted for the separates. Little did I realise that it would take them over 1 hour to find all the pieces and then try to ask for £35 quid for one door seal.
Naturally I told them where they could shove it and even offered to do the job myself and so the price magically came down to £24.
Needless to say, the wife's side can pissing well wait!
Oh and by the way, the separate pieces do not fit at all being far too long....what a load of shite!
