Any Thoughts on Engine Problem

For the Diesel Engine Specialists in here.
Sorry its not Land rover , My son has bought this 1997 Toyota Hilux as a non runner, we got it running but makes this loud banging. when 1 2 and 3 Injector is loosened it dies down a little but when 4 is loosed it stays the same.
Any Ideas ? East Fix ? or Knackered Engine ?
Thanks Everyone

Sounds like a locked up injector to me, I can't see your video, as my broadband is near death today...but if it sounds like someone hammering the inside of the engine, that's probably what it is.

Could try injector cleaner, but probably best to replace that one, for starters

Try the injector cleaner first.... Then rocker box cover off and check the valves are working as they should.(Actually, maybe do that first!) Then a new injector.

What should I be looking for when checking valves. Sorry I am not very good when it comes to engines.

Initially, make sure they are all moving! If they are moving up and down it's a good start. Worth checking that the clearances are the same, or close to each other. Just a quick visual, check the rocker arms for movement (will have to turn the engine over a couple times to check them all) which should hopefully show nothing is stuck, or bent etc

Just to add to Big Sandys advice, if you can get a compression test on it then that will tell you a lot without opening her up. Although on the older stuff its a doddle to take the rocker off. It does sound to me that #4 is not doing a lot, but I would expect the tapping to quieten down when you crack the injector.

The noise does change / quieten down on 1 2 and 3 when cracking Nuts but just stays the same on 4

Everything looks ok under the rocker cover,, Ive removed all 4 , gonna try and get them refurbed, or buy new. Then again the problem could be something else.

There is no substitute for a compression test. Its a pity but I've been down the path of trying things then doing the comp test and finding I have a duff cylinder.
Wished I had the tools to do one, the truck is stuck up in the shed at the moment, cant get it to garage.

Before buying/refurbing, swap a #3 injector with #4. If the problem moves its likely the injector, if the problem remains on #4 then suspect further issues. Whilst you have the injector out if you can throw a borescope down the hole you may see a piston issue.

Someone at garage mentioned that to, but Mixed the bloody things up, dont know which one it was now.

Sorry not to get back to this. Refurbed all 4 Injectors but made no difference, checked all Clearances and they are all in tolerance.
Now people are saying it may be broken spring or retainer , or bent valve, . Not got funds to send for rebuild so think plan is to take engine out then take the top off to see if I can see find out. What should I be looking for, obviously I will see if a spring is broken but is there anything else I might see visually ?
Thanks

I know you need to have the engine running when you do a compression test but to me it may do more damage if you keep running it ,,but unavoidable I guess .just a thought 🤔

Shouldnt need to run it. You should only remove the injectors or plugs, fit the tester into one of the available holes and spin it on the starter.

I would be rechecking the rocker shaft and the valve clearances as well…
