Hi all , having a nightmare with a 1983 landrover series 3 wiring , new bulkhead fitted and didnt take clear enough pics of wiring to put back together , new battery cables fitted live to starter and neg to gearbox stud , as soon as the battery is connected the charge light comes on dim with ignition switch off and even if disconnected, cant seem to find a wiring diagram anywhere which covers this model , it has a 2.5 diesel fitted with the hazard and fog lamp switch on the extra consile in the centre of dash, anybhelp would be much appreciated , can supply pics if it helps , thanks in advance

It' most likely wired wrong...
Keep it simple. The charge light goes inbetween D+ and Ignition feed.
At first it seems not logik to have a light inbetween positive sources, but thats the trick.
As long as D+ is at the same potential (13V) as the alternator, the bulb stays off.
Is the alternator not charging ir is on ground potential. The light will glow or shine.
The voltage on the bulb is always: V-Battery minus V-Alternator
Its also important to use the correct bulb. Otherwise its glowing always or even prevents the Alternator from charging.
Alternator / Generator doesn't matter here

very late 1985 series 3 swb 2.25 diesel wiring diagram required
just started a restoration on a late model series 3 swb truck cab. The chassis was completely rotten but the engine and body work were all in good condition . will post some pictures later. has anybody got a wiring diagram for a late model 1985 2.25 diesel .its fitted with a brake check valve...

I can't find a series 3 wiring diagram for a petrol 2.25 88" with hazard flashers that includes colours etc? Can only find them for lightweight, 24v and without hazards. :( I have no indicators or hazards at the moment and have found that the whole system is fed by it's own 12v supply.

The battery negative surely would be best connected to the chassis/body - the gearbox and engine sit on rubber mounts and are therefore insulated from the chassis/body. You're likely now relying totally on an earth strap connection of the engine to chassis.

Found a replacement for a Lucas HDC102 which shows a drawing how do the numbers compare with what is on yours?
The numbering tends to be standard post a pic of the base.
