General Rover v8 3.5

Okp

In Third Gear
Hi, I have a v8 engine, engine number begins 28g which I’m informed is ex military, though not sure out of what, it is running 8.13:1 compression ratio so low, I also have a wade r034 supercharger I’m fitting...
first question is, has anybody here fitted a wade, and have any photos of the intake they used

Second .. does anybody have any better info on the engine, what it would have been used in and also which gearbox would have been bolted to it

Thanks

Hi Dan, welcome and lucky b****r having a V8 to play with...Morris Minor :rofl:
Re 28G 8.13:1 is not listed on http://www.v8forum.co.uk/engineno2.htm
I read somewhere that 28G were the last 3.5s for the MOD in late model 127 ambulances.
Unless already removed it may have retrictors in inlets the as they were generally designated 'reduced power', that and the low compression ~90 bhp.
Gearbox, LT84 possibly Santana LT85?

It did have restrictors in, they were behind the stromberg carbs pressed into the manifold
I read somewhere else also that the cam doesn’t have as much lift too

Bung a 3.9 cam in, good torque all the way through and not at all lumpy; I noticed a real improvement on the 3.5 (but it did have a top end rebuild at the same time so could be several factors).

The v8 in my 127 ambo is a 24G. It's mated to an lt85.

Doesn't mean they didn't also do 28G ones though.

My mistake there, should read 'Gearbox, LT95 possibly Santana LT85'.
The V8 engine lists I have don't list 28G?

I grabbed an lt77 box in the end.
Supercharger isn’t bolted on yet, which brings me to my next question....

Do these bolt straight on? To repalce the manifold with the strombergs? All waterways etc as the one I have has a waterway going underneath and to the back, I don’t want all the EFI
The plan is to remove the plenum and stacks

And make a plate to bolt the blower to this
