Scrapyard seats , alternatives?

rickman

First Gear
Hi all , 'newby' here, which car seats are a good fit for a S11, undergoing a very slow rolling rebuild. (Not started yet , still gathering info) thanks.

Hi @rickman welcome to the forum!

I think I saw saab seats in one once. My old 2a had odd seats, mostly held in with dexion racking. Godz knows what they were out of, and talk about frelling uncomfortable?

I put standard series seats in. They have been fine. Not scrapyard price though.

It is getting harder to find decent alternatives due to the addition of air bags and electrics in seats these days. Having said that I believe Mazda MX5, RX8 seats fit well I believe.

If you can find a set of Fishnet Recaro seats from an old escort in good condition you will be well seated in your series.

I don’t know what you expect to pay for scrapyard seats these days. Long time since I bought any. However brand new set of deluxe Series seats are only about £100.

If you google ‘alternative seats for a series Land rover’ a few options come up on different forums. Most seem to be older threads, but defender, Nissan micra, escort, rover 200 all get a mention. However these are all older cars so you might find them a bit sparse in scrapyards these days. eBay might be a better bet.

Just checked this. Gone up a bit since I bought mine. More like £150 now (set of three) but still not bad for brand new seats that you know will fit and look right.

I fitted Mk 3 Fiesta seats in mine because I wanted to be comfortable, they were ok but a bit 'high' meaning less room between seat and steering wheel. They also felt a bit damp in the winter being cloth covered. I took them out when they started falling to bits and fitted Britpart standard seats instead. They are just as comfortable as the Ford ones, easier to get into, more durable and untroubled by the dampness problem, also I can take them out to get at the covers underneath without resort to spanners. I wouldn't go back to non-standard seats.

Plus you can probably get a decent set of waterproof or canvas seat covers for these seats too through Britpart or Exmoor. Definitely pro and Cons...

Mazda Rx8 are a common conversio, plenty about as they are banger money now and most have lunched their engines

I had Mini Clubman ones in my Landy for over 20 years (cut and welded the base frames to lower the seats and fix them). Gone back to standard series ones.

I seem to have Vauxhall seats in mine. The main thing to measure is the running rails width, and that they are both flat - not one side higher.

Exmoor trim do seat frames and complete seats in all kinds of funky fabric.
