2006 L322 wont start, key turns but engine doesn't

mluvsl

First Gear
I have a 2006 Vogue 3.0 diesel, the car has done 80,000 miles, and is well serviced. Recently the car has started doing this not starting. When you open the car it opens as normal, put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position, the steering wheel moves to position, auto lights come on, sat nav powers up, and heater inside comes on, but the engine does not turn over. If you listen carefully to the ignition u can help a very faint beep beep beep, and then it stops. After taking the key in and out 4 or 5 times, and shaking it about in the ignition, the vehicle starts. Does this seem to be a problem with ignition barrels? Has anybody else seen this? Please let me know. Thanks in advance!

As nobody else has replied, I'll give it a go. There have been reports of various electrical faults on the L322 that have been cured by cleaning the contacts on the ignition switch. Whether this is the contacts inside the switch itself or where the loom plugs into the switch I have no idea. But for the cost of a can of switch contact cleaner (do not try to use WD40!) it has got to be worth a go.

Have renewed several due to intermitent non start etc.internal connections very crude for such an expensive vehicle, cleaning never worked for us couldnt realy see much wrong with the old ones but a replacement always worked.

I have an 09 vogue with the same problem 80k miles very intermittent
the us range rover forum suggested spraying lithium grease into the ignition
I have done this and it seems a bit better but not 100% so reckon its a dirty / worn ignition prob

Might be worth checking that the vehicle knows it is in either park or neutral. If the sensors for this fail then the engine start is disabled.

Hi all my 06 L322 has just started doing this beep noise from the switch area & non start, does replacing the switch assy rectify the problem?

Have ordered switch, any one have a description of how to get to it?
Hi Richard
I have the same problem on my 52 plate L322 vogue 4.4 auto, more often than not when i put the key in the steering wheel unlocks, but the ignition will not turn, ive had a new key at AA advice.. no difference.
Is the part you ordred to fix the problem YXB000080 from Britcar ?
I asked at my local Ford garage , who do my MOT, if they could change the switch and they said it was a two day job just to get the dash removed ! As the igintion is in the middle near the gear shift how did you manage yours please, and did it solve the problem ? Ive also been advised that the problem means I require a new steering column.
Any advice would be useful.
Thanks

Got the same problem with me L322 Vogue, 2005. It cranks but won’t fire up, I’ve changed the crank sensor and no hope. Going to try the fuel pump relay. Any other advice would be much appreciated!

I have a 2004 l322 that wont start intermittently. Sometimes it would cut out while driving and then refuse to start, but 30 minutes later it would start again ias if nothi get was wrong! Took it to a RR specialist and Fuel pump changed and thought that solved it, but then next did it cut out again, then wouldnt start. Changed the crank shaft sensor, thought that solved it, but then 2 days later exactly the same problems.. the wierd thing is that it only cuts out/wont start when the airbag light comes on … if the airbag light goes out, then everything goes back to normal! Any ideas? Ps the RR specialist gave me a decent refund on the fuel pump seeing as he had misdiagnosed it. But he doesnt have any idea what is wrong

Hi, I had an issue with the key not turning. First I thought it was a faulty ignition but it's not. To get it to work I put a pye pass wire from the curticy light to the ignition block. Worked a treat. 8 months on I now have a separate issue. Ignition turns on but don't turn over.

I have a 2006 3.0L Vogue, put the key in switch, it turns on starts engine but no dash gauges or suspension working, car moves in gear but control's radio, no display working.
Removed battery terminal for 30 minutes, reconnected now nothing, Key has lost sink with becm.
Now removed battery terminal again and try after over night disconnected.

Hi there, I had the same problem when I bought my 2006 TD6, parked up one night came to the car the following morning and the car would not kick the starter motor,, found out that my ignition switch has died, had to buy a new one, you can take it out and clean them but no guarantee that it will work, it will be like putting a band aid on it, it will eventually fail..

here is a link for a new one providing yours is from 2002 - 2009!
