ALGERIA anybody ?

In Second Gear
Hello everyone,

From December 15th 2023 until January 6th 2024 there is a trip to Algeria with 8 vehicles max.. A kind of "recce", since the Algerian Sahara hasn't been traveled with one's own 4x4 for a long time, except by a few enthusiastic French. The tour is not at all for the inexperienced, neither for the faint hearted: there is 1200-1400km of finest Sahara, 200km of piste and track and 3000km of tarmac. Daily driving ranges from 50 to about 700km (on transfer days on tarmac).

The proposed itinerary is attached. There is no commercial interest here, it's about traveling through the most spectacular Sahara and finding out what the current situation is like on the ground.

If you are interested in the tour, please send a PM for the mailing list, updates will come your way automatically. In Beltring, Billing and possibly Peterborough a personal event will be held for interested parties to get to know each other and for further information and details.

In October 23 the situation for the coming winter should be clear and serious interest then be expressed. At the beginning of November €200 per traveler is due for the invitation and the guarantee from Algeria as well as for visa costs. The visas must be applied for together for the group at the embassy, i.e. the passport is on the way for about 14-21 days. Some of the costs for the invitation can be reimbursed, but not for the visa if you do not travel.

By December 1st the ferry ticket must be issued. The exact total of the cost is then also known. i.e. by then at the latest a final decision is due together with € 1,000 or the current ticket price for the ferry ticket MRS-TUN-MRS, the rest is due in cash in Gafsa before entering Algeria. The ticket is partially refundable if not travelled.

The trip will take place unless the political situation in the world or in the destination area does not allow this under any circumstances. There is no minimum number of participants but a maximum number of eight vehicles. The journey is supported locally by the Ministry of Tourism in Algeria and the country's most experienced agency for the Sahara in Djanet. The trip is accompanied from Europe by Frank Kolpin, with 10 years professional tour operator experience in Algeria, Libya and Tunisia under his belt a safe bet for the Sahara.

The total cost "all in" for a 4x4 with 2 people stands at just under 2.500,- as of today, incl. ferry MRS-TUN-MRS with deLuxe cabin, support on board, at Tunis port and on to Gafsa (customs, permits, insurance, briefing etc.) . The designated hotels are each included with H/B, as are the fees for camping, local tourist tax, local support vehicle from/to Gafsa, military escort where needed, local guides, local car insurance ALG (third party only), entry-, stamp- and customs fees, etc...

Additional expenses are for fuel and food and, if desired, optional hotel accommodation (see program). You might have to take out vehicle insurance for Tunisia if your green card does not show TUN as insured.

Voilà..there's something to dream about..:))
