Are You a Prepper?

I would consider myself to be able to look after myself and the family in an emergency with a store of food and an ability to grow produce for ourselves....although health issues might make it difficult longer term.
The reason I'm asking the question though is there seems to be a rather dangerous movement of people that are stocking up on weapons mostly it has to be said air rifles....but also crossbows. These (crossbows) are totally illegal to hunt with in the uk and the only reason I can see that anyone has got one is to potentially use it for self defence or even offence....again totally illegal here.
I've had a look at a few fb groups and in the end someone asks 'what weapons have you got'.
Boasting about your stash of bolts ,knives and ball bearings on a public forum seems to me a bit idiotic but a lot of folks are scared and these forums and groups are easy to access and just lead to a more paranoid state of mind.
If the balloon goes up the last place I would want to be is put in the wilds cos every wanna be and their crossbow will be shooting at each other. I'm staying at home.
I'm prepared but seriously hope I'm not a prepper given the amount of paranoid lunatics out there with weaponry...

Too many people have been watching "The last of us" I think.

You're not really ready unless you have NBC suit, filters, tinned food and stored water for 20 years. Plus a basement of firearms, accessories and other weaponry.

If something utterly terrible happened, and I don't want to sound pathetic here, but i'd probably rather be one of the dead. There isn't much to look forward to living for a further year or ten when it's a constant state of emergency.

Hmm...

Joking aside, the biggest threat apart from civil unrest is ww3. China, Russia, Vs whosoever. That's going to go tactical very fast, and, we ain't surviving that.

Teotwawki, folks.

With our back fence being the perimeter for usaf airbase Mildenhall i think it'd be quite quick really.šŸŒ¬

I think the youtube world has confused things greatly. The mature channels seem to have gone high and mighty and become "news outlets" scare mongering and fear porn. All whilst telling people not to pay their TV license dont get any vaccines and get ready for the big reset / middle east tension / WW3 nuclear / immigrant invasion. A few channels I used to watch and respect I've now disregarded as paranoid individuals who love to feed a conspiracy theory.

The wannabe bushcrafters / preppers are just re-hashing old stuff in their videos in the hopes to make it big and give up the day job and become full time tubers. There's a huge hint of copying here - big channel does EDC first aid kit then a week later the smaller channels have obviously gone out and bought a bigger or more complex setup and showcasing it clearly pretending they've had it for years.

Then there's the absolute nutters that have jumped on the bandwagon - these are the ones I worry about - they head out for a solo 1 nighter with their ex mil or designer kit camo'd up and camp out in their local woodland showing off various bushcraft skills whilst throwing money at their preps or kit. They are the ones I fear will go full Rambo taking out whoever and whatever is between their front door and their favourite bug out location. Once dug in they'll have their bonfire and cook their rat packs and I am sure they'll prosper for a few days - then they'll soon realise the UK woodlands aren't big enough to sustain several people in close proximity then the real bad times start for everyone! I used to live next door to one such chap. Kitted himself out in the latest 510 kit or ex army. Had several bows including crossbows, air rifles, slingshots and ball bearings coming out of his wazoo. Reality is he's a severe diabetic without his medication he'd last a few days in the woods - that said for those few days no-one else is getting near him or those woods! For the sake of a few days - might as well stay home.

I know enough preppers locally that all have the same idea of head to the forest - so for me and my family if we are ejected from our house the forest is the last place to head to!

The reality is the local infrastructure here is pants - electric goes off several times a month, water is often tinged brown or tastes strongly of chemicals. The local shops get bum rushed constantly at the slightest hint of rain or snow or extended sunny days or wind. So whilst I'm not a prepper as a household we never seem to go without and could probably last a few weeks. If a genuine SHTF situation occurred we'd be in the same boat as everyone else on this tiny island - FUBAR!

Really donā€™t think any country is stupid enough to use any form of NBC weapons ,even North Korea / Iran ,the consequences are far to great for everyone ,whatā€™s the point ,you win the war and all you would gain is nothing ,scorched earth ,devoid of life .maybe iam wrong but hopefully I will never find out , as for preppers ,each to thier own ,if it makes them happy let them crack on ,iam not a prepper but i can see why they would do this ,they might have the last laugh ,me I would just hunker down šŸ‘

It says oxo on the side of the bus but doesnā€™t mean it sells them šŸ˜‚, get what your saying Neil but I really donā€™t think if he gave the order his generals would commit to nuclear warfare ,I hope šŸ˜¬

Totally agree and don't forget the ones that are preparing for the rapture as well....whatever that may be. Sounds very David Icke to me.

We live just down the road from the UK's primary Air Defence Command Centre (been down in the bits they invite guests into).
Gone in a flash :p
Unless you have a dirty great bunker and years worth of food & water put aside you ain't prepping for that level of sunburn.
