Enabling Ambient External Temperature Sensor

You will require just a single 2 pin connector (male) as it makes up to the temperature sensor (female).
One of the wires you fit to earth on chassis somewhere.
One wire gets run from the sensor back to the instrument or actually you can run it to the back of the centre console, but I think access behind the centre console is more tricky to get into, hence I went for the back of the instrument pack.

I didn’t go for a harness, just purchased a used sensor on eBay which came with a socket, if you keep looking you will find one that comes with a socket and a few inches of cable, that’s all you need. The socket is common to many cars, mine came from a 2015 Peugeot 108! search 077500-5191 or 077500-4220 on eBay.

Makes no difference whether manual or auto box.

As long your model is a facelift then they are all compatible. 1.8 K-Series, 2.0 TD4 or 2.5KV6

Right you are

Worth every mile!

We're thinking v6.0.0 on the T4 software is a necessity for this, along with a more recent CD among the published range

Nice to meet you Tom, that’s a nice specimen of Freelander you have there, and glad I could be of help enabling this option. On the face of it 385 miles is a bit far to travel to me in Aberdeenshire for T4 diagnostics 😉. I hope the sea crossing to Shetland was relatively kind to your stomach? 🤢

Thank you again! Crossing wasn't awfully pleasant but the snowflake popped up once I rolled on land :xmas-biggrin:

T4 is suitable for all Facelift Freelander models 1.8, TD4 and KV6.

T4 is the Landrover official dealer tool for diagnostics, fault finding and of course configuring vehicles that have had a replacement ECU fitted etc. Lots of main dealers should have them as well as a number of independent specialists. I would say they would charge you something like £40 for a session to enable the feature. You could also enable options such as single point or speed locking etc , also be a chance to get diagnostics done on the motor to see if there is any sensors not reading what they should. I have found some dealers not very confident with the T4, but some are and will rattle through setting the LCS codes in a jiffy. I know a guy in Olney that has T4 and could enable it if that is not too far from you that may be of interest ?
Would a Delphi Diagnostics Kit be able to Enable the Sensor setting on the speedo? And might an iCarsoft Diagnostic manage it too?

I would doubt it, but I can’t really say one way or another tbh. Might be worth a try.

These T4 map links are for MG Rover 75 & MG ZT use the same diagnostic platform, however some may also have Landrover option available. BigRuss might be the closest to you assuming you mean North East England, he might be able to help? A guy possibly nearer to you? called Marinabrian but he has taken his name of the map now for an easier life, not saying he wouldn’t help but I don’t have his details anymore.

Really had to laugh when reading this (sorry FLM). No and DEFINITELY no. Aside from successfully being able to clear most DTCs, the iCarsoft is next to worthless on a FL.

Thanks for the info on this Lovel. We (GAP Diagnostic - IIDTool) cover CAN based LR's - for the Freelander that is as of the FL2. I have 2 daughters and have purchased FL1's for both 🤪. Bright thing to do. But this mod looks like a must.

Hello there!
Maybe someone can help me?
Have a facelift cluster and already install sensor. Only one problem - no options to activate it. I dont have T4 and don't know anyone for miles around who own it.
Maybe if someone can send me dump from cluster with activated function, I can explore it.
