IRB Developments - Td5 Performance Upgrade

Malcolm Tent

In Fourth Gear
I'm trying to get in touch with this company, as I've heard good reports on their remapping skills. So far I've tried FB, phoned all the numbers on their website and sent an email, to no avail. Are they still in business, on holiday or just don't need a bucket of my cash?

Alternatively, can anyone recommend an outfit in the South Wales/Bristol area that can do a proper remap (not a chip) on my 2001 Defender Td5?

Hello Malc..... drop me a bell tomorrow on 07816282742............Ada, thanks Dave for heads up...love ya xxx

Have you had any joy with Ian (Porny) or Ada, I'm still having trouble getting any communication that's more useful then semaphore flags!!!
Got a price for the TD5 intercooler from Ada at IRB for £780 which I think is too expensive no matter how good it is!!!
What a let down IRB Developments are, they have possibly the best products and ability in this field but only a select few have ever managed to be blessed with their touch due to a web site which is almost illegible with the white on black and only 2 products actually show prices etc, it's been saying under construction for 2 years now!!!
Ian is an amazing guy with a talent and commitment to Defender tuning, diagnostics and modifications like no other but he needs to decide is he running a business from it or just for self gratification, if the latter then close the website and Facebook page down and stop leaving all your customers hanging out to dry, I have decided I think Alive tuning is the way forward. I tried BAS but they are not interested, just purchase off the web site and book in, very cold!!
I hope others have better success with IRB as I do believe they are very good.

No luck at all. Ada supplied a mobile number to ring, but it always goes straight to voicemail. Let's be honest, it doesn't inspire much confidence in a business if it can't be bothered to return calls or answer messages or maintain a website, so I'll probably being looking to spend my inheritance elsewhere...

I managed to get some messages to Ada through Face Book on IRB page.
Eventually called me back today but did not actually know the price for the Stage 2 all inclusive price so went away to speak to Ian and was supposed to text me tonight but no such luck!!!

Try Bell Auto Services. Never used them myself, but have a good reputation on the forums, and I have heard that they even answer the phone...

Already tried BAS, don't do any fitting just buy all the bits off the website, pay for you mapping too then phone up and book a slot, a very impersonal service!!!

Managed after 2 face book messages a reply off Ada, supposed to be getting me price defo tonight!!
Watch this space!!!!!!

Oh dear nothing again, I'll see what today brings, maybe Ian thought it was too late and not wanting to wake me!!!!
I'm not begging someone to take my money, if nothing by Friday then Alive are having my cash

I was thinking of going with Alive myself. Unfortunately they are a long way from South Wales, so it'll have to be a postal remap, which I didn't really want to do.

Try again......and yes Paul....It was late to call you...We both have full time Jobs elsewhere and do most if our stuff evenings and weekends.....malc old try me about 6.30

where in south wales ? theres a guy near me that can do a good remap for you, between cardigan and sancler
I'm in the Cardiff area, so I'll probably be looking for someone more local to me.

I have the early ECU which needs to have a chip soldered in to enable remapping. What kind of a job would it be to swap it for the NNN type? Is it worth it?

Success! I managed to get in contact with IRB and booked an appointment. Ian and Ada did a Stage 2 remap, new intercooler, new MAF, sorted out my headlights and supplied a new alarm/immobiliser key. The rubber wheel nut covers look good too!

What a difference it has made! Driving back home, it felt like a different vehicle, much more responsive, and a glorious sound going through tunnels. I can't recommend these guys highly enough, they really know their stuff. If you still run a Td5 in standard tune, you need to go and see them! I have a feeling I might have to go for the turbo upgrade now...

Glad it all worked out in the end, I'm booked in for 31st of May for the stage 2, to include remap, full size intercooler, duel channel limiter box, skimmed flat exhaust manifold, uprated manifold studs, modified air box (remove vortex), black silicone hoses and maybe the EGT/Boost gauge if he can import them in time.
Can't wait
