my 90-auto conversion

this is not a how to do it it's how i do mine. starting with a 90 truck cab 300tdi. its an unfinished project that i bought when looking for a car to use for work .

The manual gearbox came out today if you need a r380 for a defender it's for sale. Found some chassis rot under the gearbox crossmember now thinking of a new chassis.

latest update a chassis has been ordered from Richard's chassis. picking it up Friday. just ordered the paint for the chassis. this won't now be a quick sort out and back on the road. the bulkhead will have to wait till next year now as i will have plenty to get on with .

A bit of progress the parts needed for the auto conversion have been removed from the disco engine. Next job is a bit of a tidy up

Just back from a trip to richards chassis.

just washed the chassis with soapy water and rinse off now waiting for it to dry before spraying it with twash to prep for painting .

Now t washed ant ready to prime will need a few hours to get totally dry.

it's an acid etch primer

A question out of interest @paul123 ..... when I had my 1985 90 2.5P converted to a 3.5 V8 + ZF4HP22 auto, we had to make a new gearbox crossmember to take the box; what are you doing for yours, Disco 1 crossmember or fab one up? Cheers.

the autobox is the same length as the r380 so the standard tdi mounts on the transfer box fit. when i did my range rover 200tdi swap i had to use a disco crossmember.

this started as a cheap 90 that i wanted to get running convert to auto tidy up and use. It's gone past that now and about to become another rebuild money pit.
