My Series 3 insurance has trebled. Is it just me?

Yeah the practices are dire, but the insurers are all losing money as repair bills have gone batshit since people started building cars full of computers Batteries.

I guess it's a case of those who won't shop around are subsidising those of us who will?
Cars, specifically JLR ones to keep it 'on topic' have been 'full of computers' since 2005, what has changed is that many BEV's are write-offs if involved in a collision where the BMS sh!ts it's pants and goes into (unrecoverable) crash mode, which in turn, would require replacement of the traction battery together with repairs to the components damaged by the actual collision.
There is also an increase in claims for misfueled vehicles - I have no idea how stupidity can be cause for an insurance claim, but it is. This can be as high as £6.5k as the vehicle manufacturers specified repair process has to be followed, which usually means replacement of the whole fuel system if the engine has been run. Bodyshops are also not immune from the hike in wages for skilled technicians, fuel costs, material costs etc. together with the high number of people trading in foreign driving licences for UK ones...
It all adds up to a perfect storm for the insurers to profit from.

Interestingly (and if this is accurate), the survivability results are a bit different to expectations...

That's twenty years old, so things have moved on - If I was going to be in a collision, I'd still want it to be in a LR / RR, especially if it was a rollover. There are numerous 'cheated death' stories around and I've seen the results first-hand of LR's that had unscheduled 'off road' trips. I saw a 110 rolled down a hillside in Kosovo, the roof was badly distorted as were the pillars, but the four occupants survived with nothing more than cuts & bruises - the driver got a 'hats-on interview' for trying to do a three point turn going up a hillside though (and no, it wasn't me!).

Remind me, how old is the design of each vehicle? The Discovery (of any age) will also perform significantly better when 'rear-ended' compared to other seven seaters.

Perhaps so, and I wouldnt compare a 20 year old vehicle with a newer one, but there are still a lot of older cars on the roads, plus the newer ones made of plastic probably serve as better crumble zones for my Defender than something like a 20 year old Volvo anyway! :D

Ive a front roll cage and some very sturdy Mazda high-back seats, but Im still going to try not to roll it!
;)

Your price hike.....thats what they do.....the auto renew option is usually not easy to spot.....I feel its used to rip of not so savvy motorists.....they can take the money out of your account with last years details.....robbers paradise.

Also.....every year I go on compare the market to see what the cheapest price......I HAVE ZERO LOYALTY TO ANY INSURANCE COMPANY>>>>>NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE.....THEY ALL ALL GOING TO TRY AND RIP YOU OFF.

FC for my 1975 S3 88".....£70 this year.

More often that not....I go with the cheapest....with NO EXTRAS.

Renewed my insurance today, current insurer wanted £4.2k, after a lot of online form filling, got it down to £926 which is just over double the previous year - not great but it could've been worse. Interestingly, the new insurer was £75 more on a different 'compare' site - just for morbid curiosity I also tried a few 'not on comparison site' insurers, the best was £53 more expensive.

To me that's shocking.. Even though you have managed to reduce it considerably..
It more or less mirrors my experience this year.. Ie on to the comparison sites, but the issue there is they just don't cater for specialist insurance.. If you tried to list the add ons and mods on the online sites you couldn't insure it..they are just not geared for anything other than bog standard...
That was my experience anyway..
