hey guys,

i just got my first land rover defender 90 diesel tdi today :):):):):)

well, the guy i bought it off got an mot done, its all find, but one comment that was made was the following :

"- 1) offside (drop arm) ball joint has slight play"

ummm, anyone got any idea of what that is? or whether its bad? either way, can people tell me what it is, how vulnerable it is to to damage and rough cost of repair?

thanks guys

Hi mate its the ball joint on the arm that drops from the steering box is quite a common wearing item and is cheap to fix if its only an advisory on the mot i woulnt worry.

I'd agree nothing to worry about, but I'd suggest changing it ASAP because it makes a noticeable difference to steering precision (or rather lack of). Along with badly adjusted box and knackered bushes, it's probably part of the old accusation that all Land Rovers handle like shopping trolleys.
