Early 107 build progress

Halfsize

Accelerating Away
Well I've picked up some steel today for my chassis so I'll be getting on with that next week
Engine is ready as is gearbox and axles so should be done for Christmas
Body will take the most work I think but we'll see
No pictures posted until I get to the rolling chassis stage, that's to spur me on :)
Think I'm going for RAF Blue

Had some family problems, with that and the weather I've not been able to get on with the landy build.
Started today and got the rear axle lined up and test fitted, when that's straight and I decide on the chassis width I can weld some cross members in.
Nice little diff in the back axle and I swapped the sprocket with the disc so as disc nearer chassis rail
Lots of measuring to do so as I get the rear track right, then measure forward and cut the rails to size. :)
Chassis upside down at the moment
No rear suspension as there's enough twist in the 4mm rails to serve as axle articulation at the rear:)
Front will be on cart springs as it can be seen when finished

I'm missing the spare wheel tho. šŸ¤¬

this looks very intresting ,mower diff and axle ?

Yes mower diff and axle, got the three and reverse gearbox from the same bloke as well, surprised to find that it has a plastic sprocket on the axle.
I'm on a budget building this so having to be very careful on the spend, hoping to finish it for no more than 500 quid, that's not counting the bits of spares I have lying around. :)

Stripped and greased axle and diff today
Smile.png

Unfortunately the diff will have to be on the wrong side due to the position of the gearbox output sprocket
Sad.png

Measure and bolted the axle to the chassis
Chassis too wide but need that to save messing with spacers on back axle, I'll narrow it at the other end so as it's correct when seen from the front

Next job is square it up and weld a couple of cross members in, hoping for some more dry weather

Albion gearbox with the clutch on ? What engine you going to use

No clutch on the one I'm using, got two Albian boxes for future projects....
As of today I decided to try and gear up the gearbox with a smaller pulley bolted to it. (Pulley in post)
I got a nice 12hp Kohlar vertical shaft engine for 150 quid and I'm adding a centrifugal clutch
That'll drive the 3 speed and reverse box with a chain to the back axle

Measuring tomorrow for gearbox position, that depends on how far back it comes from the engine with the belt I got with the engine

Engine going as near to the front axle as I can get it, limited by the bonnet height so chassis a bit lower than it should be
Raising chassis at front axle so it looks right from the front when you look at exposed spring hangers

sounds like there is some great work going on ,and no dout some head scratching to come ,hopfully not much, fantastic project ,looking forward to seeing some photos ,please keep us informed

Head scratching definitely
Rain has washed my chalk marks off the chassis which is good cause I got it all wrong.
Hoping for a dry day tomorrow so as I can cut chassis to bend and carry it over front axle

Still trying to figure out how to bend a slipper into the end of my spring leaf after cutting it to size ??

Cold weather stopped play before Christmas and you're right about head scratching
How to fix small bolt on trailer wheels to axle shafts
How to shorten front springs and bend them with just a blow torch then manage spring rate
How to manage the steering so as it isn't half a turn lock to lock, can I shorten a steering rack by just chopping end off ?

Managed to fix two small brake discs together to solve the disc on diff problem, time will tell
Where to put a gravity feed fuel tank etc

Sticking to budget so far, thinking costs nothing ;)

picture... offering front spring up to chassis

sitting around a pot belly stove in the workshop ,pot of coffee on the go planning planning and more planning ,a pen and pad on the bedside table for those eureka moments that wake you in the night ,get it down on paper befor you go back to sleep , i know this only to well , keep up the good work

Nice day today, dry and cold so got some welding done and offered springs up to chassis, they're too long but I can chop them
Next job is to fix the plastic mobility scooter wheel centres to the steel wheels

Finally decided on the front suspension set up :)
I'm using the mower front axle with leaf springs as trailing arms, coil over shocks and a panhard rod to keep it in line
That's the plan :D

Rained off most of last week but getting on with figuring out front suspension.
Just need to drill the other spring (annealing the spot to drill at the moment in kitchen)
Next is some sort of A frame to locate the axle, panhard rod not going to work well in this instance
Rear brake disc modified, original disc turned down and fitted into new bigger disc to take go kart calliper

I'm really enjoying this build. I love the way you're doing what you do as you do it. On-the-fly engineering is both a science and an artform and I think you're doing just fine.
I know I'm jumping ahead a bit here but what are you planning for the bodywork? Landy-like aluminum? Plywood? I'm really looking forward to seeing this thing come together. Keep up the great fun!

Thanks, I enjoy doing something a bit different, so easy if a little expensive to buy a Toylander but then not a petrol engine and no gearbox.:)
Body is going to be plywood but tub, cab and front end built separate so it has the right gaps and not just one continuous panel
Fitting front leaf springs at the moment, deciding where to cut them (Too long) and wondering if I can bend the ends with some heat, nice day for it though :)
