Them EV thingys.

I wonder how many EV miles are needed to offset the amount of smoke produced from one EV fire... o_O

Although I like the idea that all EVs should navigate to a cemetery, (or better still a scrap yard) instead of a charging station... :D

More than the car is capable of :p
Another aspect of EV's is their weight inducing excessive tyre wear. There is a recent study been published which highlights tyre degradation with rubber breaking down and releasing contaminants - the quantity of which are significant enough to contribute to climate change! The irony of one set of 'experts' promoting the spurious benefits of EV's in the battle against climate change while another set rail against the damage they cause!. I'll dig it out if anyone want to wade through the report and the various references and study links.

Chopped cables on EV chargers is generally vandalism and not copper theft, I've never actually seen one where a section of cable has been removed, only severed. The other thing you see a lot is people swinging the cables and smashing the connectors into the ground. Less common would be the time some neds stuffed Cadbury's Creme Eggs into the connector!

What a waste of cream eggs…

Except it is not stalling at the cheaper end of the market... of course it is stalling for the likes of Merc etc who are demanding prices for cars that you could easily buy a house for, did they really think there was that many people out their who can afford such prices. The same can be said about the Land Rover Defender these days... how many of use can afford a base model brand new out of the showroom even though it is petrol or diesel powered.

2024 is going to see a raft of new electric models to buy in the £20,000 and under price range... batteries are changing which is also bringing prices down but it is keeping up with the changes. Tesla is buying it's batteries now from BYD till they can either catch up or take the next jump forward in the technology to reduce the costs. (Buying the batteries from BYD has allowed Tesla to slash it's prices.)

Also Hydrogen is going to start coming on stream very soon, both as a combustion and as a fuel cell power source, and this is a problem for car manufacturers, which do they back... Honda and Toyota have both been working away on Hydrogen... JCB is also both for it's machines and providing engines for Buses and Lorries. (Big push coming there very soon)

Alternative fuels, well building sites seem to be switching now, though the sustainable fuels so far used are reducing the power of the machines, not sure yet of the long term impact as too early for that.

The reality is, Diesel and Petrol will become very expensive in the future, (prices going up at the moment, (seen diesel at £1.66 per litre in central Edinburgh yesterday,) we can't keep our heads stuck in the sand if you want to use your Land Rover as a daily drive, you need to keep aware of the changes and advances been made and whether those advances can be retro fitted.

Laws also change, now in Scotland you can not install into a new house, Gas Boilers, Oil Boilers, Wood Burning Stoves or open fires. They are currently working on how to force existing home owners to change out their gas and oil boilers in the future as well. Don't think they can't as they already have done this with Smoke Alarms in Scotland, now all homes must have interlinked fire detection. While a lot maybe still have not done anything about it, the insurance companies have picked up on it so making a claim might be an issue.

on the radio the other day it was going into the economics of leccy cars,
Apparently the biggest slice of the purchase price cake is the tax that the government awards itself,
our exchequer gets a larger % of the total cost than the developer, manufacturer, dealer and shipper, combine this with our economy being propped up by the finance sector (who buys new cars for cash these days) then its no surprise that the internal combustion engined cars are being outlawed by those that have a sticky finger or two in the finace pie.

Makes you wonder if they thought about the environment with all this money being earned doesn’t it .

Thing is, the tax man already has a sticky finger in fuel duty, so no difference really, they had to ensure they get a tax revenue somehow. By the way, how long will it be before fuel tax starts to rise again. The bio fuel people will be lobbying for that to help make their fuel cheaper than standard petrol and diesel.

They been thinking long and hard about how to replace existing taxation methods as they always knew that tax on oil, gas, petrol and diesel was always going to come to an end, or at least not as a big earner as it was, as it is a limited resource.

Taxation is nothing to do with the environment policies, they just say it is to justify raising it on certain things to get extra cash from the public.

I wonder how long before pay per mile comes in it’s heading that way I feel .the government are in for one reason to fleece the public and especially the motorist of there hard earned cash ,in a way which you think is helping the individual and environment….think it’s called brainwashing .
