Engine died- crank shaft fault

Me too. My 2015 RRS engine died with 75000 miles from when I bought it new. The dealer that I bought it from referred me to JLR who said that as I didn’t let the main dealer inspect the engine they can’t do anything. I had a local LR specialist fit a genuine LR service exchange unit together with a new dpf and rebuilt turbos - £17,000! The main dealer supplied the exchange engine so JLR got my old unit back, apparently this cannot be tracked for inspection. JLR sold me the vehicle knowing there was a pattern of engine starting to emerge (See 2014 Service Bulletin) but it seems that there is a 6 year limitation in the UK for making a legal claim. It’s not worth a full blown lawsuit as I would be on cost risk. I’ll certainly think twice before buying another JLR product.

Luckily i've had an 80% "good will" offer from JLR. I'm still fighting for the remaining 20% to be covered though!!!

Land rover fixed a new Turbo charger and a new catalytic converter in my 2016 Discovery Sports and when they took it out for drive test the engine failed. Land rover rejected the call to bear the cost of engine replacement but the land rover garage accepted liability and they are currently working on the car.

Any idea how much a new 2016 Discovery Sports engine would cost, Land rover garage is installing one for me but want to know how it it costs out of curiosity

This will make you laugh ..

The average lifespan for a new vehicle from Land Rover is approximately 150,000 miles or 10 years. This is slightly below average compared to the industry standard of 11 years.

Odd, because here in Portugal, people keep their cars for looooong - I've seen cars driving around here that came out when I was in high school in the 90s!!!

And when I look for LRs to buy, I see hundreds of TDV6s with 150K+ km on them, sometimes as high as 300,00km.

I always think with any car you get good and bad with every one you just got to be lucky ,there is a guy down in the village has a D3 and never done a thing to it apart from a regular service every year ..

A stroke of good luck that it failed while they were driving. Had you been driving this could be a very different story.
I agree with you, its good luck smiling on me. I've been wondering what I would have done if it happened while I was driving. Already paid about £8000 for the Turbo charger and the catalytic converter. Lucky me, I am going to have a brand new engine in the car which should serve me for many more years.

My 68 reg Range Rover, with a mileage of only 24,000, experienced a recurring problem where the engine suddenly stopped while I was driving on the motorway. I towed it to a Land Rover service centre, where they confirmed that the engine had seized. The repair cost is estimated at £38,000.

reported by them
Carried out investigation into non start, found starter trying to engage. Plugged in Topix cloud found engine obstructed or blocked fault code. Checked oil and coolant levels found correct. Removed engine oil filter and found metal in filter. attempted to turn vehicle by hand unable to turn engine sized. Requires new engine, torque converter and turbos to rectify

it was serviced by them 7-8 months ago and after service it did 1400miles

Now they want £500 to put the claim to Land Rover, which may be accepted.

Has anyone else encountered this?

or any solution to this

£38,000.?!?!?!

Which engine is it..?
You are not alone in experiencing engine issues, but Ive never heard of a dealer charging to pursue a claim.

Do a search on here and you will find in this and other threads about engine failures and how people have pursued claims, some successful, other unfortunately less so.
Any reason why you cant approach JLR direct as others have?

The vehicle was transported to the Land Rover service centre and it has been a week without receiving any response. I am waiting for their response so that I can contact Jaguar Land Rover directly.

I had 2015 rrsport engine seize on me july this year, that I have had since new, I used the memo from manufacturers that is on the forum to argue it was a manufacturing fault and not wear and tear, and under sale of goods act poor quality and not fit for purpose, they put a new engine in foc, dont give up seek legal advice using that memo that admits its a fault.
Hi

Could you kindly provide me the memo so that I may adequately prepare myself? Thank you.
